WANDERERS boast an excellent home record against Cardiff City – having won their previous 11 meetings against the Welshmen before Saturday’s FA Cup defeat.

In fact, no Whites side had suffered defeat against the Bluebirds since 1970.

Pictures from two of the most resounding victories are printed here – with, left, Peter Reid celebrating a goal at Burnden Park in 1977 (a moustachioed Sam Allardyce also holding arms aloft).

That game ended 6-3 with Paul Jones also scoring twice, and Neil Whatmore, Mike Walsh and Willie Morgan netting once each. The team that day was: McDonagh, Nicholson, Clements, Dunne, Jones, Allardyce, Morgan, Whatmore, Walsh, Reid, Worthington. Sub: Train.

The photograph on the right shows Asa Hartford in action during a 5-0 thumping of Cardiff in 1986.

The goals that day came from Warren Joyce, Mark Came, Phil Neal, George Oghani and Tony Caldwell.

The team was: Felgate, Scott, Phillips, Sutton, Came, Joyce, Neal, Oghani, Cadlwell, Hartford, Bell. Sub: Rudge.
