BOLTON Wanderers have launched an investigation after one of their coaches appeared to breach FA rules and bet on Whites to lose against QPR on Tuesday.

According to his Facebook account, Wanderers Academy strength and conditioning coach Matthew Dewhurst won £231.59 after betting £6 on a nine-match accumulator bet, which included Wanderers to lose their match at Loftus Road.

The 23-year-old’s win apparently became known when he posted a status on Facebook.

FA rules prohibit all club staff from gambling on any match the club participates in.

Wanderers said they were dealing with the matter internally and refused to confirm whether Mr Dewhurst had broken club rules.

When asked whether club staff were allowed to bet on football games, the spokesman added: “It depends at what level the staff are.”

There is no suggestion that Mr Dewhurst tried to influence the result of the match and he declined to speak to The Bolton News.

Mr Dewhurst’s win was revealed when he posted on Facebook: “Derby County, 0-2 down at home to Yeovil, come back to win 3-2 in the last min to win me £230 for my accumulator!! Buzzing!!”

In another post, he revealed the exact amount won and that Derby, QPR, Manchester United, Reading, Real Madrid, Swansea, Wolves, and Chesterfield winning their games, and Norwich and Newcastle drawing were his winning selections.

The FA’s latest guide to betting states that their rules apply to players, managers, coaches, club medical staff, other club employees and staff, directors and licensed agents.

In its list of rules the guide adds: “You are not allowed to place any bet on a game involving your club.

“You are not allowed to place any bet on a game in a competition such as cup competitions or the league itself in which your club plays.

MORE:

“All employees and officers of a club are deemed to participate in every match played by that club while they are so employed.”

QPR beat Wanderers 2-1, inflicting the Whites’ third straight defeat.

I don't care who you are it must be very difficult not to be tempted to bet on a sure thing. It must be said,it hardly takes an "insider" to have exclusive knowledge,Dougies team might lose !!!.

The club is corrupt from top to bottom. I find it staggering Freedman's position isn't seemingly under threat despite the majority of fans wanting him sacked. As a Wanderers fan i see the slide of 1980-1987 happening all over again. Complacency, arroganc
e,incompetence and contempt for the fans and a losing culture. Freedman has to go as has Mr Gartside.Phil Brown as manager with Bruce Rioch as director of football would be a start and a new chairman. As for this coach who bet against the team, sack him.

I wonder if this opens a can of worms within the club? It's obvious the Wanderers management do not have the clubs best interest at heart ln keeping Dougie Eff.as manager. What a kick in the teeth for the loyal fans who support Bolton year in and year out.I hope the league investigates and eliminates this debacle.

Meanwhile evidence presented for said "corruption" is zero.
How do no marks like you get away with making unfounded serious accusations like this with impunity?

What on earth are you talking about?
Whether they are up to the job or not I'm pretty certain that Gartside and Freeman have sleepless nights worrying about Wanderers' plight. Why would the Chairman not have Bolton's best interests at heart, for heaven's sake?
Talking about the "loyal fans" there was 12000 of us there on Saturday, can we agree that the other 12000 do not have Bolton's best interests at heart? It is the apathetic so-called Bolton fans who are as much to blame as any so-called management failings. If Bolton did manage to get into the playoff final, there'd suddenly be over 25000 entitled glory hunters demanding tickets for Wembley.
We often sneer about half of Man Utd's 75000 crowd coming from London yet Bolton's so-called fans can't make the 6 mile trip to the Reebok on a subsidised bus. Look to yourselves you pathetic whingers.

We are in decline and that,s a fact. The Club has lost its way and more interested in other corporate schemes. Charlie big time ideas and a case of all fur coat and no knickers as usual.

Lets put it thsi way, if I had money I would NEVER invest in football - it its a mugs game and actually during thsi so-called modern era it does not create money and actually waste's money.

If a club is to survive then it does have to diversify as teh actually game is 80% loss-making nowadays. Hence Eddie's expansion around teh club but not the club - i.e. the Free School, the office block, extension of Bolton Arena, buying out De Vere's from the hotel, buying sports related comapnies etc etc etc all to make money to try to balance the books!

I particularly do not like Gartside and his history as a businessman, via Companies House records, show that he is a bit of a fly-by-night closing comapnies and starting new companies to try to beat the debt system!!!

Freedman, to be fair, has virtually no money and is having to rely on bargain price, and lets not forget that he inhetrited a squad that shys away from the game and were signed by the two previous managers on high wages that do not suit the club, even then!!!!

Yes cahnges need to happen and are happening but only time will tell - we have one more set of financial records (as a PLC) which will be released at the end of teh year as year end is June - when the changeover from PLC to Ltd takes place - but the figures only get released in December - so lets see how this year finiashes before we make any bold/stark remarks
