Summary

  • BWFC team to face Ipswich Town: Lonergan, Baptiste, Knight, Mills, Ream, Spearing, Medo, Pratley, M Davies, Danns, Jutkiewicz

4:57pm

Anyway, match report up soon.

4:57pm

Need to see Lonergan's foul on McGoldrick more closely but looked a very silly one.

4:56pm

Slight flicker of a chance towards the end there as Chung-Yong put in a cross for Jutkiewicz but this summed Wanderers' troubles up today.

4:55pm

Game over.

4:52pm

Three mins added time.

4:50pm

That's where they are in the live league table now.

4:50pm

A year ago Wanderers had dropped to 20th place after defeat at Watford.

4:45pm

Looked to be opening up for Eagles - but his left footed effort isn't struck well.

JustaBloke2000 says

"It's pretty hard to argue, isn't it?"

Not really. Sordell scoring is law of averages - it was bound to happen at some point. C Davies scoring is lower league and he has a point to prove - his goal scoring record at lower leagues is pretty good, that info is there for all to see.

OK, it isn't hard to argue :-)

When you see a game hinge on this many missed chances it's not easy to see your strikers scoring elsewhere.

4:43pm

Moritz will stay a spectator today, it seems.

4:41pm

Chungy on for Medo

4:39pm

Wordsworth, the sub, subbed for Richardson

4:38pm

It's pretty hard to argue, isn't it?

4:38pm

About 40 other tweets/messages of this nature - all saying pretty much the same thing.

CeBe from Sweden says

Craig Davies 1 Nots Co 0. Now that was really a good loan out Freedman!
It´s enough for me today; I have no Words and hopes left for this.
Next season I´m sure PNE is a Championsip team and Wanderers in League one. how sad!

4:35pm

Liam Trotter on for Neil Danns.

4:35pm

Cleared to Baptiste, who leaned back and hit a half volley into row Z

4:34pm

Free kick in a decent area here for Wanderers. To the left of the pen box.

4:34pm

Eagles hasn't really had a sniff since he came on.

4:33pm

Attendance: 15,471

4:31pm

Scrappy, scrappy, scrappy. It's like the two sides have traded places at half time.

4:26pm

Tabb's shot deflected over the top by his own man, Wordsworth. Ipswich looking the more likely to score a second.

4:24pm

Hunt's dipping volley saved by Lonergan. Keeper then boots the ball out to Jutkiewicz but too far, and into touch.

4:21pm

Eagles coming on for Pratley

4:20pm

Knocked the stuffing out of Wanderers. Lonergan looking unsure on another cross.

4:20pm

McGoldrick blasted the pen right down the middle for those who care about such things.

4:19pm

But the pressure was invited.

4:18pm

Got to put that down to an error by the goalkeeper - needed to be punched away.

4:18pm

Scrappiest goal to give away. Danns had failed to clear his lines a few moments before and when the ball was poloughed back into the box, Lonergan's hashed attempt to punch the ball away ended with him clambering all over McGoldrick, who went down.

4:17pm

1-0 Ipswich. McGoldrick.

4:16pm

Foul by Lonergan on McGoldrick

4:16pm

Penalty to Ipswich

4:15pm

Ipswich just coming more into the game now. Crowd has awoken.

4:11pm

Wordsworth lashes a shot over the bar from the edge of the box.

4:09pm

Gerken forced into action again, this time by Baptiste. Good save.

4:07pm

Off again

4:05pm

At half time, there were more goals in the Burnley-QPR game than in all the others in the Championship put together...

4:04pm

The locals are restless through. Not happy with Ipswich's first-half display at all.

4:03pm

Davies has looked lively but missed the best chance of the half.

4:03pm

Jutkiewicz has brought others into play - albeit you need someone going past him a bit more.

4:02pm

But enough of the half time refreshments - general view from the local journos is that Wanderers have done well in the first half.

4:02pm

OK - back in the press box after a cup of tea and a Viennese Whirl.

3:52pm

3:52pm

Half time - and Wanderers have done okay. Not a free-flowing spectacle by any stretch but they have had the best chances, worked hard and will be quite happy after the first 45 minutes.

3:49pm

At the moment.

3:49pm

Medo blasts a shot over the bar from distance - a goal all that's missing from a solid 45 minutes. But it's better than QPR in that respect.

3:48pm

One of the very established journos here has just said Wanderers are playing very well. I'd agree, they've had a decent half.

3:47pm

Six mins of added time in this first half.

3:47pm

First goal looking ever-crucial here.

3:45pm

Jutkiewicz squeezes a shot wide. Nice bit of football from Wanderers on the edge of the box - the striker hitting one on the turn from about 18 yards out.

3:43pm

Wasted a free kick in a good position, though. Criminal.

3:42pm

With a trip - I might add.

3:42pm

Berra booked for halting a good run by Pratley.

3:40pm

Jutkiewicz really has made a nuisance of himself up there. Ream has done well on the left too.

3:39pm

Berra forced to make an emergency clearance after Ream finds Jutkiewicz with his cross from the left.

3:38pm

Cresswell clears the ball out of Portman Road and probably into the river outside.

3:37pm

Another missed chance...

3:34pm

Danns ran through on Davies' pass and stabbed at goal - Gerken saved low down and then got up to make a second save at the midfielder's feet.

3:33pm

Great save by Gerken to deny Danns.

3:31pm

Anthony Wordsworth on to replace Skuse.

3:30pm

Skuse has now been helped to his feet but looks like he was knocked out for a minute.

3:29pm

A bizzare golf buggy has now come on with the stretcher.

3:29pm

The Ipswich man, Cole Skuse, is having to come off. He's hardly moved.

3:27pm

Jutkiewicz has been an effective target so far - just not enough movement around him at the moment.

3:26pm

Pause in play with an Ipswich defender down after a clash with Pratley.

3:25pm

About 25mins gone and Ipswich have shaded it. Not exactly an end-to-end game at the moment, though.

3:22pm

Wanderers not really getting hold of the ball at the moment in midfield. It's all gone a bit hit and hope.

3:20pm

Two close calls there for Wanderers within a few seconds of each other. Need to regroup.

3:20pm

Lonergan tips over a blast from Cresswell. Ipswich turning the screw.

3:19pm

Nouble flashes a shot across goal - Mills might have got a touch.

3:17pm

Rather speculative header from Nouble after Hunt's cross - never troubled Lonergan.

3:16pm

Considering Ream looks like he's on his way to a masquerade ball, he's made a bright start too.

3:14pm

Wanderers battling well - Spearing and Medo both making some inportant clearances at the back.

3:14pm

That's the kind of chance that you fear Wanderers might live to regret today.

3:12pm

Ream produces a great cross that finds its way to Davies - he scuffed first shot and then screwed his second one wide. Huge chance.

3:10pm

Jutkiewicz wins Spearing's free kick and nods into the path of Pratley - but he gets his shot all wrong.

3:09pm

Pratley playing furthest forward again - much like QPR.

3:08pm

Jutkiewicz plays Pratley through on goal but linesman flags for offside.

3:07pm

3:02pm Sat 1 Feb 14

2002me says

who is taking corners?

Neil Danns

3:06pm

Danns whips in a cross towards Davies, who heads wide. Decent chance.

3:05pm

Nouble puts a shot over the bar for Ipswich. All came from a mistake by Baptiste to conceded a corner.

3:05pm

Sordell has scored for Charlton...

3:03pm

Tim Ream looks like Michael Myers from the Halloween films.

3:02pm

That said, Ipswich have just tried a clever corner and put the ball out for a throw.

3:02pm

Wanderers corner cleared. Ream passes all the way back to Lonergan, who has to kick into touch. Ropey start.

3:00pm

And we're off!

3:00pm

3:00pm

Freedman said on Thursday he wouldn't need a mask... Obviously he does!

2:59pm

Or the white Teenage Ninja Turtle.

2:58pm

Tim Ream has got one of those masks on!

I think we will be OK if we play as we did against QPR. As you said we need to score when we are on top. I think jukey looked handy the other night. He plays a similar game to C. Davies but he plays the ball more than the man. The other night he was able to control the ball hold it up and play it off the someone several times which is more than could be said for Davies who was more preoccupied with grappling with the defenders. Plus our bench is full if impact players so as long as we aren't forced into any early sub's like Tuesday I think we can get a decent victory today. (2-0 I reckon).

hi im back marc and first thing is WHAT THE HECK ARE WE DOING WITH THE TEAM. Or i could say WHY IS PRATLEY PLAYING

Thought he played quite well at QPR.

Ipswich also a pretty big side. Get the feeling DF has gone with his most physical line up (Trotter aside)

2:51pm

Joke, of course.

2:51pm

If I don't post for say, five minutes, can someone ring for an ambulance?

2:51pm

Worried I might get shocked in a moment, though.

2:51pm

There are two tiny desklamps in front of me that are doubling up as handwarmers.

2:48pm

Mind, Roy Keane could start an argument in an empty room.

2:48pm

Bit of a training ground bust-up between the pair, I'm being told. Shortly after that he left the club.

2:47pm

They were also recalling his "incident" with Roy Keane.

2:47pm

Liam Trotter being given glowing reviews in the press room by the Ipswich journos.

2:46pm

Minus points for Ipswich on the pre-match music.

2:45pm

Oh no, Bon Jovi.

"Getting the distinct feeling that Dougie Freedman's team selection has not been all that well received. "

Is that from away fans or the at home posse?

I think Zat has aot of making up to do to be honest Marc. Moritz on the bench, unless you can give us a clue as to why oh wise one, then I'm as baffled as the rest.

Other than that, there isn't much difference as the rest of this season in selection - no surprises.

2:39pm

2:38pm

A few people have noted that if Wanderers start like they did against QPR, they should be OK.
I'd go along with that - just so long as they actually score while they are on top.

2:36pm

It's officially cold. Just had a bite of my coffee.

2:29pm

Getting the distinct feeling that Dougie Freedman's team selection has not been all that well received.

2:27pm

Charles Breakspear is the referee today - by far my favourite official's name in the Football League.

2:27pm

HR would have something to say about that.

2:26pm

Yazz's "The Only Way is Up" playing on the tannoy. Can't help but feel the symbolism.

2:24pm

I'm up in the press box - very high up in fact - and my view is obstructed by a foot-wide iron girder. Other than that, I'm aces.

2:23pm

A delightful mix of sarcasm and realism there...

If he does then his confidence will make a turn. This is about him getting football time, fitness back up and confidence. He need to get that hunger back from what I have been hearing. He has been injured so needs time to get fit. This way Craig comes back and all will be better for him.

I do not doubt that there is a recall clause somewhere, but League One isn't the Championship, getting goals there will be just the boost CD needs.

Subs: Loach, Mings, Richardson, Anderson, Edwards, Wordsworth, Taylor

1:57pm

1:57pm

1:56pm

1:55pm

Will be interesting to see whether Trotter's signing does change the formation.

Y'know all things considered I do not think business has been all that bad.

Look we got hold of Danns and Trotter, I believe Trotter may make a great debut, possibly score. I believe he will be just a big a hit as Feeney and Dawson in all honesty. I took a look at a few videos and he does actually look the part. No wonder Millwall wanted to keep hold of him.

We have Moritz and Juke who I think can forge a good partnership today. I took a look at Juke over the last couple of seasons (on video) and if he can get back to what he has done over the last few seasons I do not see a problem as we will have two strikers capable of double figures, Beckford inclusive of course.

I hold onto the fact that we can still get Dawson in and things look even better. With injury hit players returning I think we can get a grip. Dare I say it, but it depends highly on getting a result today to kick on and I think we can still make the cut in the top 6.

Marc do I sound positive today? Yes I do... why? Well on paper the players we have remaining at the club are a fantastic bunch despite the problems of late. CYL on form can be a problem for any team. Mark Davis on form can be unstoppable, Danns can be inspirational, Moritz I do not need to say any more, he is proving to be a good acquisition and can bounce of a front two or one. Eagles - I was talking to a Man United fan today who expressed a disappointment with BWFC fans because MUFC fans were disappointed to see him leave the fold a few years ago - and apparently they had him tipped to be every bit as good as Beckham with the right coaching - he hasn't hit prime yet and could go on to be a huge player for the club. He has in the past and let us not forget that.

Tim Ream, Matty Mills, Wheater coming back, and Baptiste in the right position (even attacking) are as good as any defence in the league providing they can get ship shape.

I have not even mentioned the enigmatic STUSA Holden, Tierney and the forgotten Riley - these are all very capable along with Josh Vela.

I think we need to be confident in the squad, it will filter through eventually from the terraces, staff at the club, management, coaching and the kids coming through. I still say we should try to get hold of the experience of Michel Bastos from Al-Ain FC when the loan window reopens if he does not go back to Roma or as rumored he has gone to Roma, but may be subject to loan againif he isn't getting games. He is left midfield and has played at left back and has quality as Big Sam would put it along with experience of the Arab League - not toooooo indifferent to the Championship plus he has been playing in La Liga.

1:37pm

Burnley beating QPR 3-2. Crikey.

1:30pm

No - I'd have to think that Wigan are favourites. They had the money to get the deal done, just not the time.

It should be very interesting how DF will build his starting XI today. The lack of good defenders and strikers must be a nightmare even for DF. IMO it would be best to play like West Ham did against Chelsea to secure one point and try to hit on counter attacks. In other Words, over crowd the midfield and park the bus at Portman Road! Come on and dig in there boys!

1:16pm

12:57pm

So after all the thrills and spills of the transfer window, we're left with Neil Danns, Yannick Bastos, Lukas Jutkiewicz and Liam Trotter. What do YOU make of the business overall?

12:49pm

One of the best press rooms in the country at Ipswich - very friendly place.

12:43pm

Ipswich struggling for players at the moment - and lost their star man Ryan Tunnicliffe yesterday. He was pulled back from a loan spell by Manchester United and sold to Fulham.

12:41pm

Trotter has 19 appearances this season and has scored three goals.

12:37pm

Trotter played 90 minutes for Millwall on Tuesday night in a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday.

12:36pm

The Bolton News: Liam Trotter is expected to return to face Watford on Saturday

Liam Trotter IS eligible to make his debut today. Little scare earlier when the club said the Football League hadn't quite processed the paperwork.

12:34pm

Bright and sunny in Ipswich today but there's a chill in the air. Great day for football.

12:33pm

I have lost count of the number of times people have said to me, "You lot have a good squad, what's going wrong?" Simple truth, we don't have a good squad. If we did, people would want to make offers for them and we wouldn't have only 28 points at this stage.
Here's a stat...BWFC have won only six league matches in 12 months, without Craig Dawson in the line-up.

Other than that, there isn't much difference as the rest of this season in selection - no surprises.

Lonergan couldnt catch a cold, knight and Baptiste couldnt tackle a breakfast, Davies couldnt hit a barn door with a banjo, Medo Spearing patnership worse than Cameron and Clegg, Ream cannot play left back so why split his patnership with Mills which was ok is beyond me!!!

hate to say it but what we have now is just not good enough, weather its down to DF or the boards inability to raise funds for defenders, cant beleive no left back available out of 71 league clubs and 20 premiership teams available to choose from, but who would want to come here now.

Its looking like League 2 for us and maybee Eddie davies has had enough, cant say i blame him, administration for us me thinks!!!!!!

According to the commentary on GMR, Ipswich were there for the taking, and Simon Charlton reported that the Wanderers just 'rolled over' in the second half. It seems that Dougie Freedman is having no more luck in motivating the players than Owen Coyle had. I haven't been one of those calling for Freedman's head recently, and I know he was brought in primarily to develop young players, but this season has been a complete disaster. Bolton were among the favourites for promotion to the premiership before last season and before this season too; they won't be next season, and that's assuming they stay up.
The manager may well be putting together a collection of promising youngsters, and I know he has money problems and several players he doesn't want, but he will need to start coaxing better performances out of them, and soon, if we are to survive in the championship.
And if the worst happens and he loses his job, who would trust Gartside to pick a replacement ?

I know we're short of money but it has to be time to get shot of DF now.

Our form is wretched

Our confidence is shot

We're a "no blame club" DF says before explaining why 2 of the last 3 defeats are the fault of his goalie

He has no passion (see for example the pathetic post match interview after the Reading fiasco)

In the last transfer window he gets shot of 2 strikers to bring in 1 with a WORSE scoring record than the ones he's moving on

One of his strikers who he gets rid of (cos he's not fit) promptly scores a cracker and wins a penalty for his new club whilst we fail to score with just 3 shots on target once again

He acknowledges (at last) the pressing need for full backs and promptly signs a centre midfielder (probably the last position we needed to strengthen)

He is such a draw that after agreeing terms with Cardiff for Mason, the lad obviously doesn't want to come back here - one month was more than enough for him, he'd rather sit in the stands and and watch

He seems to think we're unlucky to lose every game, despite the stats showing that we hardly ever have ANY attempts on target

Please Eddie, Phil, Bolton News, fans fora, whoever has ANY influence get this joker out of our club now before its too late. We are heading for relegation with Freedman and the club must do whatever it has to to prevent that.

Get out , Out, OUT!

Well put but for me gartside and co need to go too ,since big Sam left our demise has been there for all to see anyone remember gartsides comment there's no money in Europe well there's no money in Bolton now!
