BOLTON went out of the Manchester Amateur Basketball League Cup after a narrow 69-61 defeat to Bury Blue Devils.

After losing by 16 points to Bury in the league a fortnight ago, Bolton were looking for a closer game with a full squad to pick from.

Bolton were ahead 14-11 at end of the first quarter, and it was more of the same in the second.

However, the Blue Devils took an 11 point lead.

It was 33-34 in the Blue Devils’ favour, but Bolton battled back before the Blue Devils added eight points to take the game.

The top scorers for Bolton were Sam Bogucki 24 points and Matt Ngara 12 points. A spokesman for the club said: “Bolton are now out of the cup, but sit in mid-table of the championship.

“Our form has been mediocre so far this season, especially since coach Paul Webster parted with the club two weeks ago.

“Recent weeks have brought the return of old players, club chair and captain Jamie MacGregor knows that we lacked the boost that starting point guard, injured Leon Crosby, normally brings to the game.”
