BOLTON School Junior Boys’ Year Six football team were celebrating after winning the Bolton Primary School Football Championship.

The boys’ team beat Blackrod Church Primary School 5-1 in the semi-final and found themselves up against Egerton in the final.

The junior boys’ team was in fine form and eased to a 3-1 unassailable half-time lead.

The second half was much closer but the Chorley New Road-based school ran out 5-2 winners.

Jameson Goloba bagged a brace, while Piers Barker-Smith, Luca Williams-Denton and Cian McDermott all got in the scoring act.

Egerton had been in fine form heading into the final after seeing off the challenge of Eagley 2-1 in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, Eagley overcame Blackrod 2-1 in the third/fourth place play-off game. The junior boys will now represent Bolton Wanderers Football Club in the Football League Trust Kids’ Cup.

The competition is held annually, between teams chosen to represent Championship clubs through local competitions, such as the Primary School Football Championship.

This year, there are a number of prestigious clubs taking part in the regional competition alongside Bolton Wanderers, Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Burnley, Doncaster Rovers, Huddersfield, Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic.

Each club will send their team to the regional competition, which will be hosted by Bolton Wanderers at the Eddie Davis Academy in March.

The north regional winner will progress to compete in the final against the south regional winner in May at Wembley Stadium.

Over 40 schools in the Bolton area competed in this football knockout, which was organised by the Bolton Schools' Sports Partnership.

Teams who were knocked out in earlier rounds will get the chance to return to Bolton School in February for the first round of the Plate competition.
