WANDERERS are understood to be one of a number of Championship clubs threatening the Football League with legal action unless Financial Fair Play rules are revised.

A group of clubs, also thought to include QPR, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers, have submitted their dispute with League chief executive Shaun Harvey via a letter from a Manchester law firm.

Wanderers have made no secret of their concern about FFP and how it will be implemented.

They feel the restrictions on spending and losses – which will be limited to £8million next season for clubs such as Wanderers who have a financial benefactor (Eddie Davies) – will make it too difficult to adjust to promotion or relegation.

There is also considerable annoyance over the fact that financial penalties imposed upon clubs who gain promotion to the Premier League but flout FFP rules will now be donated to charity, rather than split between Football League clubs who have kept inside the guidelines.

It is understood Harvey has circulated a letter to all 72 clubs that says the Football League will “defend vigorously” their stance – pointing out that Championship clubs voted 21-3 to bring in FFP in April 2012.

Wanderers were relegated to the Championship on May 4, 2012.
