WANDERERS Under-18s completed a league double over Manchester United with a 3-2 win at Carrington on Saturday.

In-form Jamie Thomas scored twice while Nathan Burke added a third at United’s Aon Training Complex to secure a fourth successive FA U18 Premier League win.

The hosts, who lost the reverse fixture 2-1 in January, took the lead inside three minutes when Ruairi Croskery got on the end of Ben Barber’s cross and fired home past Harry Campbell.

United enjoyed the better chances but could not add to their tally before half time.

In the second half, the Whites started brighter and were level on 55 minutes when Thomas showed neat footwork to beat two men inside the box before firing home.

Elliot Newby forced United goalkeeper Dean Henderson into two good saves before he was fouled in the 72nd minute and Thomas scored from the resulting 30-yard free kick.

United pushed for an equaliser but, with four minutes remaining, Burke scored from the edge of the box to give Wanderers a 3-1 lead.

The hosts snatched a late consolation through a Jack Greenhough own goal in stoppage time, but Wanderers held on for the three points, much to the delight of coach David Lee.

He said: “We started the game very brightly and created two good chances, but then got caught with a counter attack.

“It was pleasing though, how the players responded.

“We totally dominated the second half and, though we conceded a goal in injury time, we deserved the result with a fantastic team performance.”

The U18s are at home to West Brom on Saturday, kick off 11am.
