RELEGATION ISSUE

BIRMINGHAM CITY

Points: 43 Goal difference : -16
Odds (with SkyBet) : 5/6

What they have to do: The Blues only have to better Doncaster’s result at Leicester. If Birmingham win, they could drag Millwall and Blackpool into trouble.

DONCASTER ROVERS
Points: 44 Goal difference: -30
Odds – Evs

What they have to do: Simply match what Birmingham do at Wanderers. Defeat at Leicester would have them anxiously watching events at the Reebok.

MILLWALL
Points: 45 Goal difference: -29
Odds – 16/1

What they have to do: The Lions will be safe if Doncaster or Birmingham lose. A draw at home to Bournemouth would be enough unless there is a major goal swing.

BLACKPOOL
Points: 46 Goal difference: -25
Odds – 66/1

What they have to do: A point would guarantee safety regardless, Otherwise, the Seasiders are safe unless Birmingham, Doncaster and Millwall all win, and Doncaster repair a five-goal swing in goal difference.

MEMORABLE MATCHES

10/12/1955
First Division
Wanderers 6 Birmingham 0

Every Whites fan knows that Fredi Bobic was the last Bolton player to score a hat-trick – but who was the last man to score four?
The answer, of course, is Nat Lofthouse, who scored four of his side’s six goals at Burnden Park in what proved to be a purple patch for the legendary striker.
Lofthouse scored 13 goals in eight games, following his exploits against Birmingham with another hat-trick against Chelsea the next weekend.
John Wheeler and Dennis Stevens were the other goalscorers against the Blues, watched by 15,793 fans.

1/2/2003
Premier League
Wanderers 4 Birmingham 2

Sam Allardyce’s side arrested a six-game winless streak thanks to two late goals from Youri Djorkaeff and Delroy Facey.
Without victory since Boxing Day, the Whites had twice lost the lead. Kenny Cunningham’s early own goal had put them one-up but Robbie Savage equalised just before half time.
Henrik Pedersen scored immediately after the restart but Wanderers were again pegged back through Clinton Morrison.
Jay Jay Okocha then created goals for Djorkaeff and Facey in the final six minutes.

It hasn't been a disastrous season,as it could have been a whole lot worse, and doesn't look like improving anytime soon.

I have to say, I was at the match, just got back. Where the hell the 4th official got 6-mins from is anyone's guess. 3 at the most not even that. The goal should not have happened. Something stinks and Birmingham should be heading down the M6 in League One.

The way we sat back??? My guess and this is purely speculation... is that Bolton let them have the point to stay safe. Purely financial or with the mood those BCFC fans where in they would have gone on a rampage. Instead the businesses in the area are full of supporters drinking and spending money.

Reebok Al says...

Burnley have had the season we hoped to have. Dougie Freedman now knows all he needs to know about the players at his disposal, and can rid himself of the Megson / Coyle recruits who didn't do it in he premiership and haven't done it in the championship either.
Maybe he didn't realize how difficult it was going to be at Bolton, but he is a young ambitious manager and I believe he can be successful eventually. I look forward to seeing the new arrivals this summer and to watching some of the younger players breaking through.
Some points for our manager to bear in mind:
a) squad rotation is ok if we have a squad who can all contribute and not just make up the numbers
b) the system of playing the ball out from the back is fine as long as we have players who can control a ball and pass a ball
c) we need a good number of pre-season friendlies so that everyone is attuned to the system and can, for the first time in three attempts, start the season in August instead of February.
From now on the team will be Freedman's own, and it will be by their performances next season that he is going to be judged.
