NEWBOYS Swinton Moorside continue to cause a stir in the league after defeating defending champions Atherton by six wickets.

Poor bowling will haunt Paul Walsh’s side as they gave away 33 extras in defending their total of 181.

Walsh (48) and Jamar Griffiths (29) led the way in Atherton’s innings as Sriram Krishnanurthy took 3-65 and Jack Wood 3-33.

In reply, good knocks by David Flatley 39 and Jamie McDougall (37 not out) and Chris Norvall (37 not out) saw Swinton Moorside home. Griffiths ended with 4-46.

Walshaw also continued their 100 per cent record this season defeating Adlington by 72 runs.

Mikey Watt’s side batted first scoring 212 but Jack McClung (49) and Darren Foy (79) had to put a partnership of 129 for the fourth wicket to get them going.

Jack Shovelton 3-44 enjoyed the most success with the ball.

Tom Foster’s 51 was the main highlight while Majid Majeed chipped in with 21 but that was as good as it got for Adlington.

The batting performance of the day was Ash Perry’s 128 not out in guiding Flixton to their second win of the season beating Edgworth by 60 runs.

His innings included nine sixes and six fours while Alton Beckford also impressed with 87 and Steve Hammond 49 not out set a target of 313.

A late rally by Mike Watkinson 65 and Simon Lord added 60 but fell short. Beckford took 3-71.

Cox was 77 not out while Lewis Johnson added 77 to Winton’s 249.

Skipper Simon Belston set the ball rolling with 68 and Matt Twentyman added 44 in Bury’s total of 198 all out. Dave Boden took 6-49 for Standish.

De Zoysa survived an early scare as he was dropped on two before going on to being 93 not out while skipper Graeme Walsh added 41.

It was easy as 123 for Elton as that was the margin of their victory against Golborne.

Skipper John Ashworth hit 87 while Alistair Laws added 41 in their total of 211. In reply, captain James Carr top-scored with 24 as Elton’s Mark Goddard took 5-21.

Himesh Silva (5-61) and Simon Harrison (3-12) skittled Little Hulton to 106.

Elsewhere, Rashid Yousaf's 40 could not stop Darcy Lever falling to a 38-run defeat to Daisy Hill.
