THE Astley and Tyldesley Sports Association held an archery taster session at St. George’s Central School.

Children from several local schools and some from further afield took part in the event which was expertly led by members of Eccles Archery Club whose member Jon Jones demonstrated a longbow, an American flat bow, a compound bow and an Olympic Recurve bow.

Mark Grogan, headteacher at St. George’s said: “The pupils listened to a safety briefing from Eccles Archery coach, Terry Burnett.

“They used the information Terry had gave them and then were given the opportunity to have a go at shooting which was overseen by Jude Law (Ladies Longbow British number one).”
