TWO Bolton wrestlers are celebrating after getting to grips with England’s best at the national championships.

Craig Pilling did his aspirations of booking his spot at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland this summer no harm by winning the 57kg category British Senior Wrestling Championships.

Pilling edged closer to a Welsh call-up with the performance, while, club team-mate Louisa Porogovska also topped the podium in the 55kg category in the same competition as she tries to impress the Team England selectors.

Club coach and organiser Lee Meadows said: “They did really well at the competition and I think they are good role models for the younger people.

“It gives them something to aspire to and we are very proud of their achievements.

“We are trying to get more and more kids involved and wanting to take up the sport.

“This just shows them what level they can reach if they put all the hard work in.”

Pillingis looking to follow up on his experience of representing Bolton Olympic Wrestling Club and Wales at the last Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010.

Craig said: “It was a great result and I am just hoping to get involved in the Commonwealth Games.

“Louisa did well to top her category. She is number one in Great Britain.”
