DOUGIE Freedman is pleased to have got his transfer business done early this summer.

It is little more than a month since the Whites’ final Championship game against Birmingham City but already the Wanderers boss has secured five new signings.

French defender Dorian Dervite was last week confirmed as an arrival, and will be unveiled officially once his deal at Charlton runs out at the end of this month.

He joins former loanees Neil Danns, Liam Trotter, Liam Feeney and Andy Robinson who have all now agreed to join on permanent contracts.

Freedman is still looking for more additions and wants at least one more striker – with Lukas Jutkiewicz and Joe Mason high in his thoughts.

Full-backs are another priority, and it is understood Wanderers may have changed their mind on Leeds United defender Lee Peltier, who is currently being strongly linked with both Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest.

The 27-year-old looks likely to leave Elland Road, regardless of who is appointed to replace ousted manager Brian McDermott.

Although Wanderers initially ruled themselves out of the running, there have been indications from the club they could get involved if the current problems at Leeds deter either Blackburn or Forest from doing the deal.

Freedman is nevertheless happy with the business he has done so far.

“We know what Neil Danns, Liam Trotter and Liam Feeney can do after last season and we have got them all in permanently on free transfers along with Andy Robinson,” he told The Bolton News.

“Dorian Dervite is another who has not cost money and is a great signing for us.

“I am still looking and everyone knows we are interested in Lukas Jutkiewicz after how well he did for us last season.

“We have to wait and see if that happens.

“There may be other additions, but the timing and deal has to be right.”

The fact four of the five new additions spent time on loan at the club last season proves the value of the market for temporary switches – the Whites had a sort of ‘try-before-you’buy’ option, although none of the acquisitions have cost any fee.

Regardless of the loan market benefits, though, Freedman wants to look for more permanent deals in the remainder of the close season and going forward.

However, he remains committed to working inside the club’s budget and within the constraints of Financial Fair Play.

He added: “The loan market has been fantastic for us but we shouldn’t rely on that.

“You always prefer players on permanent deals.

“We have got five in and they have all been free transfers.

“I am not saying we will not spend if we need to.

“I know fans always like to see the club go out and spend money on good players but they have to be the right ones who are worth paying for.”
