WANDERERS legend Jussi Jaaskelainen is on the verge of extending his Premier League career by signing a new one-year deal with West Ham.

The Big Finn, now 39, has made 59 appearances for the Hammers in the last two seasons but fell behind Spaniard Adrian in Sam Allardyce’s first team last term.

Jaaskelainen – whose family is still based in Bolton – has now agreed to stay on in the capital beyond his 40th birthday.

Only three players can top Jaaskelainen’s 527 appearances for the Whites, set between 1998 and 2012 – Alex Finney (530), Roy Greaves (575) and Eddie Hopkinson (578).

His record of 435 Premier League appearances puts him 20th in the all-time list, and the fourth highest non-British player, behind Sylvain Distin, Mark Schwarzer and Brad Friedel.
