FORMER Wanderers midfielder Alan Thompson has been installed as the new development coach at Birmingham City.

The former England international, who made nearly 200 appearances for the Whites between 1993 and 1997, has been appointed to Lee Clark’s backroom staff at St Andrews after a spell at Celtic.

Thompson also worked in the youth set-up at Newcastle United and his former Magpies team-mate Clark is looking forward to having him aboard.

“His passion and desire stood out but also his knowledge of working at a club like Celtic - both as a player and a coach – where there are huge expectations,” he said.

“He has experience at all levels of coaching in senior football.

“We are delighted to welcome him to Birmingham City and to help continue the pathway for our young players to the first team.”
