- Action starts at 5pm
- Hastie going for his fifth title
- Ball going for his second title
Read a report of today's final online shortly. And thanks for joining me. Goodbye.
Last word to his dad (and caddy): "He'd be good if he practised." He'll have to make do with being Bolton champion without practising!
Ball's just told me he hadn't even expected to qualify this year because he's hardly played for months.
Congratulations to Liam Ball on his second title.
Congratulations to Liam Ball on his second title.
Hastie conceded on the 17th so Ball wins 3&1 (that's three shots ahead with one to play).
Liam Ball is the champion. Hastie concedes in the 16th.
Hastie hits a tree with his drive on the 17th.
Both miss short putts to halve the 16th. Hastie the shorter from two and a half feet. A difficult two and a half feet though putting second. Will that be the crucial moment? Ball 2 up with two to play.
Ball goes 2up. The Turton man wins the 15th with a 12 ft putt for a birdie three. Long way back for Hastie now.
14th hole halved. Ball with a great recovery shot out of the green side bunker to save the hole. Ball 1 up.
The scene at the 14th as we walk away from the tee
Hastie misses. It was from four feet. Ball still 1 up
Great shot by Ball, a toot away, Hastie throws him his ball. Hastie needs this to level the match.
Hastie a couple of feet away with a long putt. Both had three shots, Ball off the green.
Ball in the bunker at the 13th. Over hits it out.
Tight game. 12th hole halved. Ball 1 up. Ball had a 12 ft putt to win that last hole and just missed. You can start to feel the pressure.
Hastie did well to halve the 11th. Ball still 1 up.
Tenth halved. Ball misses a putt to win it
Just been corrected. Ball's putt was more like 40ft and Hastie's 15ft.
Ball sinks a 20ft putt for three at the ninth. Hastie misses his eight-ish footer. Ball back to being 1 up.
Hastie wins the eight. All square in the match.
Ball in a bunker half way down the long eighth fairway. Chips out a few feet. Hastie fine. Going to be tough for Ball to keep the lead after this hole. But he keeps the pressure on Hastie with a decent third shot.
People estimate there's 200 watching this. A good crowd apparently.
Ball sank a 15-20ft putt at the seventh to halve the hole. Ball still 1 up. Yes that's Ball 1 up. Definitely. Trust me.
CORRECTION. They halved that last hole so Ball is 1 up after the sixth
Ball, left, and Hastie at the seventh tee. Ball won the sixth hole to put him 2 up
A lot more people watching the further along the course we go. Either they've run out of Tetleys Gold in the clubhouse or people are coming after work
Just been told by BGA secretary Mark Latham the terminology I use suggests I'm a non-golfer. How dare he!
That should have been after five holes. Ball 1 up after five holes. Sorry.
Hastie concedes. Ball wins fifth with solid play. Ball 1 up after six holes.
Ball nicely on the fairway after another long p
good drive. Good second shot draws applause. Must be Ball's hole this.
Hastie struggled to find his ball in the trees after drive at the fifth. Penalty drop.
I want one of these.
Ball misses, Hastie... Misses too. Halved. Level after four holes.
Pressure's on Ball at the fourth. Both had three shots and Hastie's a lot closer to the hole.
All square after three holes. This fourth hole is a beggar for seeing what's going on. Suffice to say these two guys are quality.
For anyone who doesn't know the type of golf theye play in these championships is match play which means each hole is worth a point. Win a hole, get a point. Draw a hole, no one gets anything. Easy.
Halved third hole after both went close with putts. Level after three.
Both nicely on the green at the shortish third. This is a close one
Ball takes the second
Brilliant approach by Ball. This'll be his hole.
Ball just hit a 370-yard drive at the second. That's just showing off! Hastie in a bit of trouble near the trees.
The scene at the first hole
Hastie in in three. Hastie 1 up after one.
He plays out a long way. This is going to be Hastie's hole
Ball in the bunker by the green
Hastie's approach to the tee is superb.
Blimey these guys are good
Better than I could do!
And we're off. Hastie to tee off at the first
That was Liam Ball on the practice green.
Gareth Hastie's just walked past me in the car park looking as calm as someone who's already won this thing four times before. Probably because he has.
They've been organised by the Bolton Golf Association and called Bolton Golf Championships since 1931. Boring stuff over.
Quick history lesson. The Championships began in 1921 as "Bolton's Best Golfer"
Plenty of plaudits for Chorley's hosting of this year's competition.
They had salmon.
How about this for a grand looking golf club! Today's venue for the final.
Arrived at Chorley Golf Club. Lovely building, beautiful views, not sure if they've got prawns.
I'll be off to Chorley soon and will hopefully give a live update on the pre-final dinner before the action starts. Hope they've got prawns. I like prawns.
Mark Millhouse who lost an epic semi against Ball on the fourth extra hole laaaate into the night.
Nice to have a different picture of Liam Ball - looks nothing like he does in yesterday's pic. He's going for his second title today.
Matt Buckley who gave Hastie a tough battle
Gareth Hastie on his way to beating Matt Buckley of Old Links 2&1
And coming up are some additional photos from yesterday to brighten things up...
