DOUGIE Freedman wants Norway international Jonathan Parr to solve his left-back crisis.

The ex-Crystal Palace defender is a free agent and has been on Wanderers’ radar all summer.

But after it emerged this week that Marc Tierney will be unavailable for up to three months following surgery, the Whites boss now finds himself in a difficult situation with less than a fortnight to go before the opening pre-season friendly against Brondby.

Parr was signed for £300,000 at Selhurst Park by Freedman and won the Eagles’ player-of-the-season award in his first campaign in English football.

He was a major part of the Palace team that gained promotion to the Premier League the following season and also played 15 times in the top flight but fell out of favour with Tony Puils after picking up an injury in January and left the club in May.

“I would be very interested if we can get it done on a free transfer,” Freedman told The Bolton News. “I have worked with Jonathan before at Crystal Palace, he’s a good age, he has experience of the Championship and the Premier League and most of all, he’s a talented player.

“We don’t have many options at left-back at the moment so if we can get something done on a free, then of course, I’d like it to happen.”

Freedman does have the option on playing Tim Ream on the left but stated on several occasions last season that his side suffered for playing the American away from his favoured central role.

Ream’s distribution skills are considered key to the way the Whites boss wants to play next term, although new signing Dorian Dervite is cut from the same cloth and comfortable on the ball.

Parr started his career alongside former Wanderers keeper Ali Al-Habsi at Norwegian club Lyn Oslo but moved on to Aalesund in 2007, making more than 100 appearances in the Nowegian top division and twice lifting the Norwegian Cup.

He made his international debut in May 2010 and now has 10 caps to his name.

It does look like the future for Bolton is signing players Dougie played with in the bottom half of the championship.I'm off to put a fiver on the whites staying up.

Hats off to DF, he looks to be building something better than 14th and making some unsavory but fluid decisions with the team.

I really hope Bolton have a successful season. What I can't understand though is why D.F. came to Bolton in the first place,he must have signed about half a dozen Palace players while he' been at Bolton. He'd have been better off staying down there if he wanted Palace players on his team .

Hopefully come the start of the season we will have rejuvenated players with rejuvenated minds and it will just be positivity around the training and players who wish to play for the club and I can see good things if this happens. Big season ahead in my opinion.

Considering the length of time we've had this problem with the left back position, and also the fact that he's an international and a free agent, and that he's been on Wanderers' radar all summer, will we be told why he hasn't already been signed up ?

It looks to me like DF is building a team to get us out of the Champoinship (promoted rather than relegated I hope!) Trotter, Danns, Feeney etc remind me of the Hendry, Marshall, Farrelly types who played the last time we went up- able to handle the physicality of the division (ok Farrelly not so much.) What we most need now of course is Jutkiewicz and Mason to help Beckford get the goals; getting those two would give us a great chance but without them we have very little prospects of featuring near the top end IMO.
