THERE is nothing like heaping pressure on some of the country’s talent but a youngster from Bolton- based Lancashire Road Club is hoping to live up to his nickname.

Two years ago, Bradley Wiggins stole the national spotlight for winning the Tour de France and following it up with gold at London 2012 Olympics.

The country went ‘Wiggo’ mad and he went on to become the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

But, now Thomas Figgins from LRC has been recording some impressive results in regional competitions.

The 16-year-old is performing so well that he has been dubbed ‘Figgo’ by his team-mates and a new phenomenon could be born as he goes from strength to strength.

The Edgworth teenager has shown excellent form on the road, carrying on from his success in cyclo cross racing.

Taking time out from his exam studies he took an excellent second place in the midweek UCLAN circuit race event at Preston area. He has now ridden in the last five of these midweek events and this was his third second place along with sixth and seventh place finishes.

Tom said: “It is quite good getting a nickname like Bradley’s. “He is a role model for all cyclists, just like Mark Cavendish, and I would love to get as high as they have done in the Tour de France.”

Tom has been competing in road races for four years and among his achievements are winning the Thursday League.

His next big race is the Colne Grand Prix next month. But before that he will be taking part in the Preston UCLAN Crit races on Thursday nights and competing in the CDNW Road Race series.

He has also qualified to ride in the Three Peaks Cyclo Cross race in September which is described as the hardest cyclo cross race in the world.
