WANDERERS fly out for their Scandinavian tour today with Dougie Freedman admitting his squad is lacking just one crucial ingredient.

After making seven summer signings the Whites boss is happy with the balance in most areas of his side.

The notable exception is up front – and Freedman will pick from just two senior strikers for the tour of Denmark and Sweden, which takes in games against Brondby, FC Vestjaelland and Mjallby AIK.

Jermaine Beckford and Craig Davies are the only two front men who played for the club in the Championship last season but the Scot is not unduly worried as his pre-season preparations begin in earnest.

“Things are taking shape,” he told The Bolton News. “There are still a couple of gaps and it’s no secret we need to strengthen up front, but I’ve been pleased with the business we’ve done so far.”

Freedman was particularly happy to land left-back Dean Moxey, who plugged a defensive gap that has been evident since last October when Marc Tierney broke his leg against Yeovil Town.

“Dean is a player we’ve tracked all summer and it’s fantastic to bring him on board on a free transfer,” he said.

“It’s a great bit of business.

“I paid quite a lot of money for him at Palace and he went on to play in the Premier League last season.

“He’s solid, reliable, and it solves a problem we’ve had in that position for a while since Marc got injured.”

Wanderers will be based in Malmo, Sweden, during the trip, crossing the massive Oresund Bridge into Denmark for two of their three games.

Meanwhile, Freedman’s attacking ranks could soon be reduced further with speculation intensifying over a bid from Coventry City to sign Tom Eaves.

The 22-year-old spent most of last season out on loan at Rotherham United and Shrewsbury Town, making just one cup appearance for the Whites.

He is yet to make a league start for Bolton since signing from Oldham Athletic four years ago for a fee reported at the time as £1million.
