Former Wanderers winger Martin Petrov has announced his retirement from football.

He played at the Reebok Stadium between 2010 and 2013, scoring 10 goals in 73 appearances after joining from Manchester City.

Now 35, he began his professional career in 1995 at his home-town club Botev Vratsa, in 1995 and played for CSKA Sofia, Servette, VfL Wolfsburg, Atletico Madrid, City, Wanderers and Espanyol.

Petrov, Bulgaria’s Footballer of the Year in 2006, also made 90 appearances for his country, scoring 19 international goals.

He said: “Everything has a beginning and an end, I think it’s time to stop playing football. I haven’t yet decided what I’ll be doing from now on.”
