CREWE boss Steve Davis senses his side could cause a cup upset at Gresty Road tonight.

Despite having lost their first four games in League One, the Railwaymen did dump out Barnsley at Oakwell in the first round.

And Davis reckons a performance on par with that night could see his side pile further pressure on Dougie Freedman by knocking Wanderers out of the competition.

“It is a game we can look forward to,” he said. “Everyone has been disappointed by the start we have made to the new season but a positive performance and result against a Championship side could really give us a lift.

“I cannot fault the players for their effort. We have made a number of mistakes and we have to improve on that but the confidence and spirit is still there in the camp.

“The players have the character to bounce back and there would be no better place to do that in front of our own fans on Tuesday night.

“We know it is going to be tough because Bolton are a Championship club and it wasn’t so long ago that they were more than holding their own in the Premier League.

“They have lost some players along the way, but when you look at their squad they still have quality players. It will be a good test for us.

“Our players can rise to the occasion and if we can produce our performance at Barnsley then we should give them a good game.”
