Bolton Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman wants boost before international break

DOUGIE Freedman heads into a crunch clash with Leeds United insisting there has been no lasting damage done by his side’s slow start to the season.

The Wanderers boss has come under heavy fire from fans after his side took just one point from their first four games to sit in the bottom three before this weekend’s trip to Elland Road.

Freedman has remained defiant amidst the criticism and claims that speculation over his job is not something that will distract him as he looks to put a first win on the board.

The Scot maintains that morale within the camp has not been affected by results but he accepts a worrying trend has developed recently that has seen the Whites throw away a lead in each of their last three league games.

And that is where Freedman is demanding immediate improvement this weekend in a game he can ill-afford to lose before the first international break.

“The confidence is there, I don’t think that has been a problem,” he said.

“We have played some very good sides and taken them right to the edge but we need to be more ruthless and make sure that if we get into the lead we take it to half time; if we do it in the second half, we see it all the way to a period of the game where we feel more settled.

“That’s the key. There’s nothing wrong with the confidence and I think this side will score goals but when a game is tight we need to stay in games.”

Freedman’s task will be helped by the return from injury of Dean Moxey and Mark Davies, although Adam Bogdan is unlikely to be risked in goal, leaving Andy Lonergan to continue after his excellent midweek display in the cup.

It is a game of two halves...

DF has lost control a long time ago. I would hope that this weekend will clear things up. Either we thump Leeds and show class as a football team or DF has to go... no excuses this Saturday or any time after... vote of confidence must have been determined already.

Are we seriously not going to get any fresh players in before the transfer window expires?!?! There are 3 days to go!!!! I feel like FFP is being used too often as an excuse for the board! We will end up making some token bid for 2 or 3 players on deadline day that we have no chance of getting just to make it look like we have tried at the last minute (as we seem to do every window!) Get your fingers out now Freedman, Gartside and Davies otherwise it's league 1 here we come!!!!

I agree we need some fresh faces at the club but not the ones Freedman chooses,he needs to go and get the new managerput in place .this man could not pick his nose let alone decent player.i really fear where we are going to end up.its not too late to get this sorted out and this will also give us fans a massive boost as well.

Agree with most comments posted but there is one word from all the comments that is missing LEADERSHIP on the field we dont seem to have anyone who consistently shows any leadership and to be successful in any sport or industry you need at least in a group the size of football squad you need at least 5 leaders of which 2 are on the pitch.Dougie Freedman speaks a very good plan each week,he talks players up very well yet when games are finished its all gone pear shaped follow the German philosophy Strong back four, methodical midfield, hard running attack and leaders all over the pitch

As a loyal fan and season ticket holder of many years I always want my team to win, that goes without saying. However the worst scenario tomorrow at Leeds would be another odd goal defeat. That would probably give Freedman a reprieve until the next back to back home games. I fervently hope for a win, but If we do lose it would be better for the club in the long run that we get a real thumping and then the board can have no excuses for delaying the inevitable. In all my time I cannot remember being so despondent at the season's prospects. Freedman's team has been totally outclassed and outpossessed by every team we have met this season. The defence is shaky, the midfield weak and the strikers are misfiring. In other words everything is wrong.

Probably sack him after the deadline then promise the new incumbent funds in January which will then not materialise. Remember us fans are numptys according to gartside but we can all see straight through you Phil, please please leave so we can salvage are championship status.

I support all the comments about Dougie being sacked. The problem is Gartslime won't do it - no balls. Never mind the money. He just won't. Doesn't see it as a problem.
Whelan spotted Coyle's inadequacies straightaway a did the right thing - what 3 months in? The Fat Controller is a weak man. Can't take a decision and will NEVER EVER fall on his sword.
