DOUGIE Freedman believes he still has the backing of Wanderers owner Eddie Davies and chairman Phil Gartside despite the club’s poor start to the campaign.

The Whites sit third bottom with one point from five games after today’s 1-0 defeat at Elland Road.

Many fans have called for a change in management but speaking after the final whistle at Elland Road, Freedman claimed the club’s hierarchy was still behind his rebuilding efforts.

“I completely understand that people have got their own opinions,” he said. “We’re in one thinking process at the top (of the club). They understand where we are and what we’re trying to do.

“I have been asked to do a job and that’s to lower the wage bill but also try and keep the football club moving forward. It’s very difficult.

“I don’t think that was a problem today. I think it was that desire to keep the ball out of the back of the net.”

Wanderers had several clear-cut chances to earn at least a point at Elland Road but Freedman was amazed his side emerged pointless, pointing to some poor defending in the build-up to Stephen Warnock’s winning goal as the decisive point in the game.

“If someone told me we would have that much possession, play in their final third for the majority of the game, create that many opportunities and still come away not having won the game, I’d be scratching my head,” he said.

“Once again an individual mistake costs us dearly. That has got to stop because it’s hurting us dearly.

“But when you look back through the game we had enough of the ball and created enough chances in that last hour – I just need more desire to keep the ball out of the back of the net.”

I have advocated that Phil should go for years. He is the real problem with the Club. Can anyone tell me 1. What do the rest of the board do - what is their role? And 2. Lennie L - what's the point??

I cannot believe the board and owner are still backing Freedman after another backward step. Football is measured on results as is a a manager the owner should know this or is he only interested in the business and has no real interest in the football. I am totally baffled as to why DF is still manager, he is far to negative as are the results, get rid now!

I've come to the conclusion gartside must have a DVD on Eddie Davies doing something he should not ! Because surely he should of gone long ago with his choice of picking managers and the demise of Bwfc since the big Sam days. Oh for the stadium to be full of supporters...... these days you can get a ticket in a raffle to watch Bolton..... how sad it is for us suffering fans.

Of course he has the backing of the board, they dont want to pay him the compensation for firing him. The only way this clown leaves is if he goes off his own back, which I cant see happening myself. As fans we need to do something to make the board realise that they cant keep ripping us off. I might be getting a bit carried away but if everybody boycotted the next home game, they would soon get the message. They hate spending money on the club as it is, so imagine them having to pay for policing, stewarding etc when nobody is actually in the ground. Ha bit extreme but i just want these divs out of the club

No goal scorer, no playmaker, no money, no hope. Freedman trying to manage with 2 arms tied behind his back taking all the flack while the owner chairman and board remain silent. We need the power brokers to be honest with fans , stop using our manager as the fall guy and present a positive plan of action for both the short and medium. DF recently stated to fans he did not want loan players that he improved and then sent back to their clubs who in turn required inflated prices. We now learn our only prospect of new signings are loans. DF not being told the truth by the board. I will continue to support the club as they sink down the leagues but please treat the fans with the respect they deserve .

Gartside is scum, never tells the truth and would get lost taking his dog for a walk. E Davies has milked the club dry, taking over all assets in the process, the ground, the hotel, the land. After blowing £500 million SKY revenue he gives us near £200 million of debt in return. Add to that a useless manager, a squad of third rate players. Such a catastrophic demise it beggars belief. The board are no better than thieving vultures ripping the last shreds of meat from a dead carcass, I can see administration looming on the horizon.

What are you (board of directors) doing to OUR club? Its a shocking, disgusting mess which is leading us down a road to an Abyss and no-one seems to want to do anything about it that involves spending any cash.

DF you don't get off either, what exactly are you training these players to do? How are you coaching them to improve, they are not improving. They seem to manage themselves on a pitch, incapable of following tactics (I have presumed you tell them that side of the game). Its worse than Megson's days.

It has been a continual slow sad decline since the heady days of the FA Cup Semi Final vs Stoke. Little did we know then that the 5-0 embarrassment was a glimpse of much worse to come.

Frankly I have been a big supporter of Dougie particularly after the late charge up the league narrowly missing out on the play offs in his early days. However this apparently was just a false dawn with last season being nothing short of a calamity. An ongoing inability to keep clean sheets made worse by a shot shy group of forwards particularly at home has carried on in to the start of the current season.

I struggle to understand how the player who scores twice during the week to keep Wanderers in the League Cup is then banished to the bench in the very next game when his confidence is surely high. Mason and Davies work hard but their goals to game ratios are not great and worse than Beckfords!

I completely understand Dougie's objectives set by the Board and in terms of lowering the wage bill he gets a big tick in the box. However for the second part I.e. Keeping the team going forward I'm afraid he's failed thus far. The squad which he has largely assembled is far better than its current league position which to me suggests that he is not getting the most from his players as the whole is much less than the sum of the parts.

Another season of mid table mediocrity (at best) is the likely outcome if nothing changes.

By the way who was in charge on that fabulous night in Munich? Oh yes it was Gary Megson.

Be careful what you wish for....

You're the worst manager for many a year,2 years on and we're in a worse position, for me you rotate the team too much like a top four Premier manager would do with top players on the side lines, give a settled team a run,one example last year,Rob Hall played a blinder one game but the next was dropped with your excuse you don't want to burn players out? He's a young lad for goodness sake,I could go on but enough is enough, the problem also lies higher up in Gartside,he is behind our demise from the Premier League,he's another who has to hold his hands up,say sorry to the fans and Eddie Davies and go,people who don't perform in any job today get their marching orders, a whole wage cutting process was done last year but I bet Gartside kept on taking his money out of BWFC, Gartside must take the blame and do the decent thing and resign, time will then tell if it would be a good thing or nor,the present situation says it would not be a bad move.

Why oh why when we were still in the Premier League did we not just do that and be ambitious and go for the likes of Tony Pulis or similar then? Now we will have trouble attracting the right manager if DF goes.
Now we have to ,given a fair wind, start again from the beginning.
Let's hope when the time comes a manager of the right calibre gives us the benefit of the doubt.
10,00 season ticket holders? We won't even have attendances of 5,000 if we end up in League 2!

Portsmouth all over again.
Mark my words, Davies and gartside will keep sucking the cash out until there's no more to suck. Unpaid tax bill, bankruptcy, winding up order, 10 point deduction, league 1, difficulty getting players or fans to commit, no money, league 2.
We, my fellow wanderers, are witnessing the beginning of the perfect storm in terms of our club and it's future.
We need to take ownership, organise ourselves and protest at the criminally inept manner in which the club is being run on and off the pitch. If we don't, then we cannot complain at anything which comes our way.
We as fans must act now.
Boltonmonkey
