BOLTON Sailing Club members were prominent in the leading places at the annual Supernova Inland Championship.
Four out of their five Supernovas finished in the top 11.
It was an impressive achievement by the Bolton club, which is based near Belmont, as there were 44 competitors from around the country taking part at Northampton Sailing Club.
There was a very light and fickle breeze at first before the wind picked up sufficiently for the race officer to fit in the six scheduled races and then picked up more as the races took place, with a steady force two, gusting three.
All races were closely fought with Alex Collins leading the way for the Bolton club.
He finished fifth and was youth champion, with Andy Flitcroft sixth, Mike Critchley eighth, Tony Critchley 11th and veteran sailor Don Appleton also showing fine form.
The current momentum in the Supernova class is impressive, with more than 60 competitors at the recent national championships in Aberdovey.
There are also open meeting turnouts of around 30 competitors and a fast growing contingent of younger sailors which, combined with the experienced sailors, makes the class one of the best single-handed fleets at the club at the moment.
Bolton Sailing club has more than 25 Supernova single-handed dinghies and many other classes of boat and the club welcomes new members. Visit www.sail.org.uk for more information.
