WANDERERS defender Dorian Dervite is confident the tide will soon turn for his new club in the Championship – starting tonight against Rotherham United.

A goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday extended the Whites’ winless league start to six matches.

But it did see them register their first clean sheet of the campaign.

And the Frenchman, who made his first league start in the Owls clash, hopes that will give them something to build on when the Millers visit the Macron Stadium tonight.

Dervite told The Bolton News: “I would have preferred the three points but the clean sheet was very important.

“It should give us some confidence for the game against Rotherham, and hopefully then we can be talking about a victory.

“I’m 100 per cent sure that things will change for us.

“We just need to keep a focus and be ready for the Rotherham game, not to let it get us down.

“It doesn’t matter whether you played on Saturday or not. We need everyone to be ready.”

It was Dervite’s first taste of league action at the Macron after featuring in the Capital One Cup victory over Bury.

And he sensed the expectation of the home faithful who are desperate to see their side break their Championship duck.

But being in and around the squad, the former Spurs defender believes the hard work done in training will start to reap its rewards on the pitch.

The 26-year-old added: “It is intense. You can feel that in the stadium.

“But you can understand why because fans want us to win, especially at home.

“We try our best and I think the Sheffield Wednesday game was better than a few of the last games for us. I think we did a little bit better.

“The good thing is that we are working harder and harder in training to try to change things.

“I honestly think that one or two good results and it will give us that confidence.

“We have the players to play at the top of this league so I am sure it will seem fine in a few games.”

On a personal level, Dervite was happy to get a start after being a patient observer.

Now he wants to cement a regular place in the back-line and repay the faith of boss Dougie Freedman who signed him from Charlton in the summer.

Dervite said: “I have watched and learned in training. I think I have picked up a few things.

“Of course, I was ready to play and it took a little bit of time for that to be the case but hopefully I can keep myself in there now.

“It felt good. I like to play alongside Matt Mills at the back, he talks a lot, and we’ve got quite a good partnership, I think.

“He’s never quiet and he’s helped us a lot in training. I think everyone on the pitch needs to do that. We don’t need just one or two players, we need 11 leading.

“We all play our part differently but it is important we all do our bit.”
