WANDERERS got back to winning ways at Newcastle United on Saturday thanks to another brace from promising teenage striker Jamie Thomas.

David Lee’s under-18s’ side were keen to forget a 6-0 home drubbing by Middlesbrough last time out in the FA U18 Premier League North Group.

And they did just that with a 3-1 triumph in the North East.

Christopher Cvetko opened the scoring for the young Whites on 12 minutes with a fine strike into the top corner from 20 yards.

However, they were pegged back when Sean Longstaff converted past Will Jaaskelainen on the half hour.

Wanderers got their noses in front again soon after the break when Thomas scored the first of his double.

He was there again on 70 minutes with his sixth goal in three league outings.

The win left Lee’s side third in the table, five points behind early leaders Manchester City.

“We were on top for the majority of the first half,” said Lee. “And in the second half, we dominated again. Overall, it was a very good performance with a result pleasing for the players.”

The U18s are away again on Saturday when they face a tough trip to take on Liverpool’s academy side.
