CRYSTAL Palace had announced Dougie Freedman as Wanderers’ new manager – but the club were keeping their cards close to their chest as Wolves old boy Mark Davies rescued a point at Molineux.
The statement from Selhurst Park had irked the Bolton hierarchy, who were flatly denying a decision had been made on Owen Coyle’s replacement in the light of a thrilling 2-2 draw under the lights in the Black Country.
Benik Afobe opened the scoring from close range after pouncing on a Martin Petrov corner but the game swung the way of Wolves when Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle scored twice within three minutes.
Bakary Sako set him up for the first, then hit a free kick that Adam Bogdan could only parry before Doyle slid in his second.
Carl Ikeme did his best to preserve that lead, making saves from Kevin Davies, Chris Eagles and Petrov.
But Mark Davies had the final say with a smart finish from the edge of the box against his boyhood club.
