WANDERERS (4-4-2) ANDY LONERGAN...6 Made some important saves in first half but should he have claimed the cross that led to the goal?

TIM REAM...6 Still awkward at times on his right but defensively sound despite finding himself swamped by Goldbourne and Sako.

MATT MILLS...8 Deserved a clean sheet after clearing virtually everything that was thrown into the Wanderers box.

DORIAN DERVITE...7 Another encouraging performance from the Frenchman, who didn’t give much away to Wolves at all.

DEAN MOXEY...6 His recovery continues. Solid for the most part, even though the goal came from some sloppy defending on his side.

LIAM FEENEY...5 Never really got a chance to stretch his legs and missed a glorious opportunity in the second half.

JAY SPEARING...6 Got through a mountain of work and tackled back well. Lacked a bit of quality on the ball at times, though.

OWEN GARVAN...5 Penalty miss aside, the Irishman was behind the pace for the most part. Couple of neat touches but more needed.

CHUNG-YONG LEE...6 Neat and tidy on the ball but too often isolated in the game. His one piece of magic went unfinished by Feeney.

JOE MASON...5 After the Lord Mayor’s show for the young striker, who simply wasn’t in tune with the rest of his side.

CRAIG DAVIES...6 Hassled and harried the Wolves back four with little reward. Should have scored with the only chance he got.

Subs: Beckford 56 (for C Davies) – Looked sharp but should have scored 7 M Davies 64 (for Garvan) – Got busy but didn’t create much 6 Danns 70 (for Mason) – Buzzed around trying to get something going 6 Not used: Kenny, Medo, Pratley, McNaughton.

STAR MAN – Matt Mills Threw himself into everything around the penalty box and contributed to what was – one sloppy moment aside – a very good defensive effort. Mills is in good form at the moment, and leading by example.

WOLVES (4-3-3) CARL IKEME...8 MATT DOHERTY...6 DANNY BATTH...6 RICHARD STEARMAN...6 SCOTT GOLDBOURNE...7 LEE EVANS...7 KEVIN MCDONALD...6 DAVE EDWARDS...5 JAMES HENRY...6 NOUHA DICKO...5 BAKARY SAKO...6 Subs: Clarke 46 (for Dicko) 5, Saville 66 (for Edwards) 5, Rowe 77 (for Henry 5. Not used: McCarey, van La Parra, Ricketts, McAlinden.

THEIR STAR MAN – Carl Ikeme Protected his side’s three points with a fairly routine stop form Owen Garvan’s penalty but a couple of top drawer saves from Mason’s cross-shot and Feeney’s one-on-one.

MATCH STATS POSSESSION Wolves – 59 Wanderers - 41 SHOTS ON TARGET Wolves – 6 Wanderers - 5 SHOTS OFF TARGET Wolves – 9 Wanderers - 6 CORNERS Wolves – 9 Wanderers - 7 FOULS AGAINST Wolves – 5 Wanderers - 11 OFFSIDES Wolves – 3 Wanderers - 1 Booked: Wolves – Batth 50 (foul on Mason) Wanderers – M Davies 68 (foul on Rowe) Sent off: None Attendance: 22,695 Referee: Andy Madeley (West Yorks) Goals: Wolves – Dicko 42 Entertainment – 7/10 From a neutral’s perspective it was a bright and breezy game – Wolves dominating and playing some fine football in the first half and Wanderers keeping the energy levels up in the second.

Atmosphere – 6/10 Molineux was never at its loudest and Wanderers’ travelling contingent of around 1,000 were subdued, even with their side battling to get back into the game.

Match point – Owen Garvan’s penalty goes in, then Wanderers look favourites to win the game. A real turning point in the second half, although there were other chances that would have sufficed.

Magic moment – The first-half appearance of a grey squirrel on the pitch. Sprung the Wolves offside trap on a couple of occasions and showed good movement. Sign him up Dougie.
