WANDERERS under-18s were on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline against Liverpool’s academy side on Saturday.

Goals from Jerome Sinclair, on his 18th birthday, Sergi Canos and Will Marsh sealed all three FA U18 Premier League points for the Merseysiders on a disappointing day for David Lee’s young Whites.

The hosts took the lead after a good move on 25 minutes and doubled their advantage with what Lee described as a “freak” goal moments before the interval.

The Whites rallied after the break and in-form frontman Jamie Thomas saw a shot cannon back off the outside of the post.

Lee’s youngsters kept plugging away but a third goal five minutes from time for Liverpool sealed victory.

Lee said: “We conceded after 25 minutes through good play by Liverpool.

“Then, right on half time, they scored a freak goal.

“We were resolute throughout the second half, though we were limited to a couple of half chances.

“Unfortunately, it was just a bit too much of an ask for us in the end.

“It was just one of those games really where Liverpool just had the edge over us in terms of the ability of their players.”

The U18s are back on home soil at the Eddie Davies Academy on Saturday when they host Stoke City, kick off 11am.
