October 23, 2012: Crystal Palace announce just hours before Wanderers are due to face Wolves at Molineux, that Dougie Freedman had left Selhurst Park to become Bolton’s new manager. The Whites deny a deal has been struck.

October 25, 2012: Wanderers confirm that Dougie Freedman is their new manager, taking over from Owen Coyle who was sacked 14 days earlier.

October 29, 2012: Freedman takes his first press conference, declaring that he intended to “change the mentality of the football club” and that he was “a young manager in a rush to get to the Premier League.”

November 3, 2012: After Jimmy Phillips and Sammy Lee had presided over the game against Middlesbrough, Freedman won his first game in sole charge, beating Cardiff City 2-1. The team remained undefeated throughout November.

November 8, 2012: Freedman makes his first signing in charge of Wanderers, bringing Norwich midfielder Jacob Butterfield to the club on a month’s loan.

February 2, 2013: A run of one win in seven sees Wanderers sink to fourth bottom in the Championship.

February 9, 2013: The introduction of loan signing Craig Dawson from West Brom prompts an incredible turn in form. Wanderers lose just three times in the next 16 games.

March 9, 2013: After beating Brighton 1-0, Wanderers win a fifth consecutive game for the first time since 2006.

March 26, 2013: Club release statement to confirm that long-serving club legend Kevin Davies will not be offered a new contract.

April, 2013: Freedman wins the Championship’s manager of the month award. Wanderers break into the top six for the first time with a 2-1 win at Bristol City but lose key midfielder Jay Spearing for the rest of the season to a toe injury.

May 4, 2013: Wanderers fail to gain the win they need against Blackpool on the final day of the season to secure a play-off place. An injury-time winner from Leicester City’s Anthony Knockaert against Nottingham Forest snatches their place in the top six away at the last moment.

August 3, 2013: A new season kicks-off with a 1-1 draw at Burnley. Little do Wanderers know but they are about to embark on their worst start to a season since 1903. A 4-1 defeat by local rivals Blackburn is arguably the low point of the run.

August 27, 2013: Wanderers are dumped out of the Captial One Cup by League One Tranmere Rovers in extra time at Prenton Park.

October 1, 2013: Although a 0-0 draw at Blackpool shows some signs of promise, thanks largely to new loan arrivals Kevin McNaughton, Neil Danns and Liam Feeney, it remains the 10th winless game for the Whites.

October 5, 2013: A 2-1 win over Birmingham City sparks a revival of form, with Wanderers going on to win three of their next five games and climbing into mid-table.

December 29, 2013: Wanderers are beaten 5-3 by eventual champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. Freedman’s side fail to win any of their next eight games and fall to 19th position.

January 18, 2014: Freedman apologises to fans after a 7-1 defeat at Reading, the club’s worst in 32 years. He goes on to say some of his players “are not good enough” to play in the Championship.

March 1, 2014: Wanderers hammer local rivals Blackburn 4-0 at home with goals from Medo, Joe Mason, Jay Spearing and Andre Moritz.

March 8, 2014: Wanderers register their biggest win under Freedman, beating Leeds United 5-1 at Elland Road.

May 3, 2014: Birmingham City salvage a late draw to avoid relegation at Wanderers, who finish a disappointing 14th position in the Championship.

August 9, 2014: Wanderers kick-off Freedman’s second full season in charge with a horrific first half display in a 3-0 defeat to Watford.

August 30, 2014: After a draw against Nottingham Forest, Wanderers lose their next three games, including a 1-0 defeat at managerless Leeds United.

September 16, 2014: Joe Mason becomes the first player in 12 years to score a hat-trick for Wanderers in a 3-2 win over Rotherham – the club’s first win of the season. The joy is short-lived as Freedman’s side slip to a 1-0 defeat at Wolves a few days later.

October 1, 2014: Wanderers lose 4-0 away to fellow strugglers Fulham prompting intense speculation that the Craven Cottage defeat could be Freedman’s final game in charge.

October 3, 2014: Wanderers announce Freedman has left the club by mutual consent.
