BARRY Massey has used his experience and extensive local contacts to reinforce his Hindsford squad to cover for all eventualities as he pushes for a fourth successive league title.

The Squires Lane boss has registered two of his old pals – Ramsbottom United joint managers Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson – who he could call on, commitments permitting.

“I’ve signed them on,” Massey confirmed ahead of Saturday’s trip to face league leaders Stockport Georgians.

“They’re old team-mates of mine but they are still only 30 and 32. They might not be available, but if they are and we have a tough game, I could use them.

“I’ll do anything to get a strong team out.”

Hindsford dropped a position to seventh in the Premier Division table without kicking a ball.

All but one fixture in the division fell foul of the weather - and Dukinfield Town’s 3-0 victory over Springhead saw them move up two places to fifth, leapfrogging the Squires Lane men, who should have been in action at Prestwich Heys.

They remain eight points adrift of the Georgians but with three games in hand and Massey is targeting a win this weekend to cut the deficit and make a statement of intent.

“We’ve got everyone back from suspension but the only problem I have is that all the lads are out on Christmas dos on Friday night,” he said. “I just hope everyone’s in the right frame of mind and stays clear of too much alcohol, but I can’t really stop them.

“This is a big game for us. If we win our three games in hand, we could, in theory, be top of the table.

“There’s about four of five teams involved in it (the title chase) and if we can win this one, things could get very interesting.”

Atherton Town, whose home game against Royton was one of six Premier Division postponements caused by waterlogged conditions, host third-placed Walshaw Sports on Saturday.

The weekend’s Division One programme was also decimated by the weather with all but one fixture postponed, including Breightmet United (home to Heywood St James), Pennington (home to Old Alts) and Leigh Athletic (away to Irlam Steel).

On Saturday third-placed Leigh Athletic host Breightmet (sixth) and eighth-placed Pennington are at home to Beechfield United.
