EMILE Heskey sees no reason why Wanderers can’t go one better and add his old club Liverpool to the pile of scalps in this year’s FA Cup.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will be fancying their chances of a trip to Wembley with half the Premier League already eliminated from the competition.

But the ex-Reds striker senses another cup shock could be on the cards, if the Whites can produce another momentous effort like they did at Anfield.

“Listen, we’ve got just as good a chance,” he told The Bolton News. “It’s at home and we want to go and perform.

“Liverpool are a phenomenal side – players like Coutinho, they are world class internationals. It will be tough but we like difficult tasks, it’s what we do.”

Heskey chipped in with a dogged defensive display, hunting down defenders as he did in his Anfield prime.

“You’ve got to try haven’t you?” he laughed. “I looked at the defenders throwing themselves in front of everything, so I thought I needed to do something more than just kick the ball around.

“Everyone had to chip in, but we did. It was great.”

At 37, Heskey has been there and got the T-shirt on stages like this – but he had words of praise for some of the players who stepped up at Merseyside to grind out a money-spinning replay.

“The manager has instilled a lot of belief in the lads and spoke to each of us individually so each of us knew exactly what our jobs were,” he said.

“We didn’t shout from the rooftops that we were going to get a result, it was quiet confidence and we knew we were capable.

“It was dogged, it was backs against the wall at times – although not as much as we thought it might be – but it was a great performance. Now hopefully we can go and win the replay.

“When you are dealing with someone like Raheem Sterling, who is so sharp and difficult to defend, it can be a nightmare for defenders.

“But it’s testament to them, they kept their concentration and he didn’t get too much of a sniff.

“To come into a stadium and an atmosphere like this and not shrink or hide away, you have to take your hat off to some of the younger lads in this team. They showed they are men.”

Heskey got a warm reception from the home fans when he was substituted in the second half – but he reserved special thanks to the Wanderers support for the way they have backed him since his arrival at Christmas.

“It was great to get back out on that turf. It holds some great memories for me, so I’m happy,” he said.

“I got a great reception and to be fair to the Liverpool fans, that has been the case whenever I came back here with other clubs.

“I didn’t think I’d get a chance to do it again at my age – but there we go.

“But I have to say thanks to the Bolton supporters. They have been brilliant with me, absolutely fantastic from the moment I got here.

“I’m blessed that they are singing my name and happy with what I do.”
