MANCHESTER United keeper Ben Amos has been drafted in by Wanderers after their injury jinx struck again on Thursday.

Adam Bogdan will miss up to six weeks of football after damaging ankle ligaments in training, forcing Neil Lennon to draft an emergency replacement ahead of today’s clash with Wolves.

Amos – fourth choice stopper at Old Trafford – has made just one league appearance for the Reds in seven years at the club but has featured in the Champions League and League Cup.

His last senior football was 12 months ago in a loan spell at Carlisle United but the Macclesfield-born keeper has also had stints at Norwegian club Molde, Hull City, Oldham Athletic and Peterborough United.

Losing Bogdan is a blow for Wanderers, however, with the Hungary international pushing hard for a recall to Lennon’s side after a magnificent performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

The 27-year-old will have a scan today to assess the true extent of the damage but the Whites boss was cursing his luck once again as another player was consigned to the treatment room.

“We seem to have run over a few black cats at some point,” he told The Bolton News. “Adam got hurt in training – his ankle just got caught in the turf. There’s no damage to the knee but it looks like bad news. We’re not getting the breaks at the moment.”

Andy Lonergan will be in goal today and most likely keep his place against Liverpool in Wednesday night’s replay.

“We’ll have to look at Ben and see what condition he is in,” Lennon added. “Andy will be the keeper for next few weeks. Ben’s is a month-long loan and we may extend it depending on the injury to Adam.”

Lennon did not let Bogdan’s injury prevent him from speaking with the player’s representatives yesterday as he tries to convince him to stay at the Macron Stadium beyond this summer.

Speculation over the keeper’s future has circulated for several months but Brendan Rodgers stamped out rumours of a bid from Liverpool after last weekend’s cup clash.

Now Lennon wants the best of both worlds – and will attempt to get both of his senior keepers to stay put.

“There has been previous interest in Adam but no recent interest,” he said. “There was some speculation about Liverpool but Brendan has touched on that already. I am meeting Adam’s representative today (yesterday) and hopefully we can sit down and negotiate a new contract and keep him here.

“I would like him to be here. I would like to keep the two and we will be speaking to Andy as well in the next few weeks.”
