JAMES Henry’s stunning strike rescued a point for Wolves and took the shine off Zach Clough’s stunning Championship debut.

The Academy graduate struck twice in as many minutes to give Wanderers a 2-1 lead they held deep into second-half stoppage time.

But substitute Henry snatched a share of the spoils with a superb right-footed strike that tempered the home celebrations.

Wolves made the perfect start, forging ahead after only three minutes when Kevin MCDonald’s raking ball over the top found Dorian Dervite on his heels, and with Andy Lonergan also slow to close down, Dicko raced in to power home the opening goal.

Wanderers recovered their poise quickly, however, their passing game working much better than it had against Rotherham in midweek with Clough dropping deep to combine well with Darren Pratley and Liam Feeney.

Debutant Adam Le Fondre also looked sharp, striking just over the bar on 17 minutes after a neat interchange with Clough.

Soon after that Clough snatched centre stage. Pratley was tripped on the edge of the box, offering the 19-year-old an opportunity from a set piece – and one he took with both hands, curling his shot round the wall to leave Carl Ikeme standing.

Just two minutes later the Tameside youngster had put his side ahead.

Pratley looked to have played Ream into trouble on the left but the full-back managed to nip in ahead of Dominic Iorfa and cross low for Clough, who shifted the ball on to his right foot to force his shot past Ikeme at close range.

Wanderers continued to ask all the questions leading into half time, and Clough came close to a hat-trick with a stinging angled volley which dipped just over the bar.

He also had a shout for a penalty turned down by referee Eddie Ilderton – prompted by a trip by Richard Stearman as he looked to steal in on Liam Feeney’s cross from the right.

Straight after the restart Wanderers were dealt a considerable blow as Pratley pulled up with a hamstring injury, replaced by Dean Moxey from the bench.

The game slowed considerably after the injury, with neither side creating much until a flick on by Feeney after 64 minutes found Le Fondre, whose volley on the turn forced a decent save from Ikeme.

Clough was brought off 20 minutes before the end, presumably with Wednesday’s FA Cup tie against Liverpool in mind, his replacement Rob Hall went close with a dipping shot.

Moxey also had a chance, releasing Le Fondre with a fine ball to the right and then chasing into the box, where he just missed making a connection with the cross.

Wanderers looked to be coasting home and had chances to score on the break late on – but Wolves fought to the end, and Henry’s screamer four minutes into stoppage time left a sour taste in the mouth.
