CELTIC midfielder Kris Commons - a transfer target for Bolton Wanderers – has signed a new two-year contract.

The Glasgow club's confirmation of the deal signalled an end to protracted negotiations that for a long time appeared likely to end in failure.

Wanderers boss Neil Lennon, the former Celtic manager, had publicly stated his ambition to take Commons to Bolton during the transfer window and the player looked like a man on his way out when he threw his boots to the Hoops fans after a 2-0 win at Hamilton on January 17. But he scored against Rangers in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Sunday in his fifth consecutive start and a deal was finally struck.
