IN-form winger Liam Feeney did as much as anyone to try and extend Wanderers' unbeaten home league run under Neil Lennon but was left just as disappointed as his manager after Watford’s late winner at the Macron Stadium.

Feeney kept up his good run of form with another scintillating display of wing play against the Hornets who found it hard to cope with his pace and crossing ability.

He was chief provider of all three Whites goals in the day – two crosses from the right for Zach Clough’s double and one from the left to feed Adam Le Fondre for his second goal in as many games.

But it still wasn’t enough for all three points.

A frustrated Feeney told The Bolton News: “I suppose for the neutral it was a good game to watch but from our perspective it is not what we want to happen at home.

“When we were 2-2 up we had enough chances to kill the game off but we didn’t take them.

“We should still have kept it tight but we let them get back into it and then take another lead.

“We showed good character to come back into it again.

“We were going for it in those last few minutes and we left ourselves open at the back door.

“It was extremely disappointing from our point of view.

“It might be seen as a negative on the back line with the scoreline but that’s not the case because we defend as a team as much as we go forward as a team.

“There are a lot of incidents that have to happen before they get the ball in the back of the net.

“We’re disappointed because we are better than that - we shouldn’t be shipping that many goals at home.”

The first goal for Wanderers had an element of controversy with assistant referee David Benton raising his flag for offside but being overruled by man in the middle Geoff Eltringham with Le Fondre not active.

It angered Watford but Feeney played on to set up Clough and did not see anything wrong with the goal.

He said: “He (Le Fondre) just left it as far as I was concerned.

“He wasn’t interfering and the ball went past him. He held his hands up and didn’t make any attempt for it so I didn’t really see an issue with it and the officials clearly didn’t either.”

After a first home league defeat in 11 outings, Wanderers are back on the road next weekend as they begin a double header against Nottingham Forest and then Middlesbrough.

And Feeney is confident they can bounce back again as they have after previous setbacks, stressing the fact no-one in the Wanderers camp will be panicking.

He added: “The more positives we can take from the Watford game the better but we have to improve on the negatives.

“We can’t turn it into a crisis.

“That is the first game we have lost at home in the league since the new manager came.

“We have to make sure it is just a blip and go and try and get two away results before we come back here against Brighton and hopefully put on a performance in that game."

“Having no game this week is good. I think it is probably a positive this week because we have had such a build-up of games.

“Hopefully it will give us an opportunity to refresh the legs and get a couple of bodies back fit.

“We can work on the training ground and make sure we put things right.

“We have a massive game next week and then again the following Tuesday.

“We have to make sure we use this week properly and make sure we do things right.”
