BEN Amos will continue in goal for Wanderers against Brighton today as they continue to take special precaution with Andy Lonergan.

The on-loan Manchester United keeper is expected to make his home debut at the Macron after impressing Neil Lennon against Middlesbrough in midweek.

It was hoped Lonergan would be able to return – but the club’s medical staff are keeping a watchful eye on him after he complained of headaches following a clash with Nottingham Forest striker Dexter Blackstock at the City Ground last weekend.

Lonergan had a CT scan after the 4-1 defeat, which came back clear, but Wanderers are holding him back from a full return for now.

Adam Bogdan is also due back to full training next week – but Lennon says he has no qualms naming Amos against Brighton in what would be only his second competitive start in 12 months.

“He did very well considering he hasn’t had much football,” he told The Bolton News.

“There was a calmness about him, which spread across the back four. I think he can be really pleased with his debut, so he’ll continue.”

Amos has not featured for United since January 2012, slipping to fifth choice behind the likes of David de Gea, Victor Valdes, Anders Lindegaard and youngster Sam Johnstone.

He is currently the seventh longest-serving member of the Old Trafford squad, having made his first appearance for the Reds in 2008.

But with his contract up in the summer, he is likely to be looking for a new club.

“I think this puts him in the shop window,” Lennon said. “He’ll obviously want to prove a point and that works out well for us. I think there is a hunger about him.

“I think his distribution was very good, so was his positioning and he made a great save from Patrick Bamford in the Boro game.

“He came for crosses and it gave calmness to the team that we needed. It was a difficult situation to come into and he handled it very well.”

Tim Ream could return to the squad after coming through a fitness test yesterday while Matt Mills also returns from suspension.

There was no indication from Lennon at his press conference yesterday that striker Craig Davies was in the frame to feature in his squad.

“We’ve had a really tough month in terms of opposition at the time and all the injuries and suspensions,” the manager added.

“I’ll be glad to see the back of it to tell you the truth, but if we can get back to winning ways against Brighton it will set us up well for the run-in now.”
