LUKE Smith hit a stunning hat-trick as Bolton under-13s schools town team beat Trafford 3-1 away on Saturday.

The striker, who has not scored since he hit four against Derby earlier in the season, produced another impressive multiple goal show to sink a side who have reached the semi-finals of the national knockout.

He produced a fine controlled finish with the ball at an awkward height to put Bolton ahead in the Greater Manchester Schools League following good work in midfield by Josh Cummings of Thornleigh and Ethan Holmes of Turton High.

Bolton defended resiliently to maintain their lead up to half time and Smith doubled it five minutes into the second half when he smashed an unstoppable 25-yard free kick into the top corner.

Trafford pulled one back on 75 minutes and the close game was in the balance until Bolton broke quickly from a Trafford corner and Turton's Smith ran half the length of the field before beating the keeper.

Teddy Moulden fired Bolton U14s through to the semi-final of the English Schools FA Cup with both goals in a 2-1 win away to Leeds.

A 140-mile round trip to Wetherby proved worthwhile as Bolton gave an outstanding account of themselves in the first-ever meeting between the two sides.

Moulden, who goes to Thornleigh, put his side ahead with a brilliantly placed 25-yard free kick into the top corner.

Leeds deservedly equalised before half time from a scramble following a corner, and Bolton goalkeeper Kain McGaughey, from Thornleigh, kept his side in the game with a series of tremendous saves, helped by strong defending.

Moulden and Rivington and Blackrod High's Declan Baldwin were outstanding in midfield and Moulden clinched a great victory three minutes from time when he received a pass from Jamie Ramwell of St Joseph's High and fired home from just outside the box.
