BOLTON's under-15s and u14s football teams won through to the last four of the Manchester County Cup on Saturday with away victories which went to extra-time.

The u15s town team won their semi-final against Trafford on penalties while the younger year beat Macclesfield 3-1.

Manager Daryl Thomas's u15s looked set to go through without the need for extra-time or penalties until the home team equalised with the last kick of normal time.

And after slipping behind in the extra period the Bolton boys needed an own goal to take the game to the spot kick shootout which they won 5-4.

Goalkeeper Charlie Fletcher (Rivington and Blackrod) saved the second spot kick while Joe Rothwell (Canon Slade), Joe Pennington (Thornleigh), Keelan McCabe (St Josephs), Harry Waterhouse (Thornleigh) and Saul Gouffran (Rivington and Blackrod) all converted their penalties to win the tie and set up a last-four clash with either The Wirral or West Lancashire.

Pennington had put Bolton ahead on 20 minutes when the captain headed home a Gouffran corner.

Trafford levelled two minutes later and Waterhouse restored the lead on the hour when he made no mistake from a pass by Matty Chapman (Sharples).

Bolton Under-14s, who are also in the semi-final of the North West of England Cup, won a thrilling game at Macclesfield which saw them go ahead 20 minutes into the second half after an exciting end-to-end but goalless first period.

Kieron Sherlock (St Josephs) got the goal following a great run on the left after a successful tactical change by manager Vince Baldwin to switch his wingers around.

Macclesfield equalised five minutes later to take the game to two 10-minute periods of extra time.

Teddy Moulden (Thornleigh) put Bolton back in front when he met a George Mikolajewski (Canon Slade) cross with a superb half volley in the first half of extra time, and Adam Walton tapped home Mathew Meskell's (Canon Slade) pass to seal the victory.

Despite the success of the town's teams, they are still having to play in old kits in poor condition as their search for a sponsor to help them look as smart as their opponents has so far only brought in one donation which will go into a pot to hopefully eventually buy new strips.
