FORMER Wanderers defender Sam Ricketts has joined Swindon Town on loan from Wolves until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old Wales international left the Whites to join Wolves 18 months ago.

But he has not figured for the first team since November and has made just five appearances this campaign.

Ricketts, who played more than 100 times in four years with Wanderers, had also been coaching at Molineux but is now joining the Robins – a club his grandfather Norman also played for.

Swindon boss Mark Cooper is delighted to have the experience of Ricketts on board as his team looks to push for promotion from League One.

He told BBC Sport: "We're in a position where we need to be winning games and that's a big pressure for a young group. I just felt we needed an older head, someone who had been there and done it.

"Sam did it with Wolves last year. He captained the side with a record points tally, so I think he's ideal for us."
