WANDERERS under-18s slipped to a narrow 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United in their latest outing in the FA U18 Premier League.

David Lee's side went into the game on the back of a creditable 1-1 draw at Norwich City seven days earlier.

But they were denied a similar result in the north east when they conceded a second goal 10 minutes from time.

The Magpies opened the scoring on the stroke of half time but, despite windy conditions, the Whites were level on the hour mark.

Good work from Alex Perry ended with a cross into the box and fellow Liverpudlian Danny McKenna controlled it well before scoring from 10 yards.

It looked like another hard-earned point for Wanderers before a scrappy winner for the hosts on 80 minutes sealed victory.

The result was disappointing for Lee but he was pleased with the inclusion of three members of the under-16s squad.

Lee said: "Ryan White started the game, while Jack Earing came on after 70 minutes.

"We also had Cole Lonsdale on the bench and all three under-16 players will benefit from the experience of being involved at a higher level."

The young Whites have no game over the Easter weekend.

They are back in action on Saturday, April 11 when Arsenal are the visitors to the Eddie Davies Academy.
