WANDERERS headed to Brentford for their first visit to Griffin Park in 20 years – looking to make it back-to-back away victories for the first time this season.

The two sides have met just once since the Whites last made the trip to west London and that was a memorable day for boss Neil Lennon as he celebrated victory in his first home game in charge.

The Bees visited the Macron Stadium for the first time at the end of October and Lennon was given a rapturous reception before the match.

But he had to be patient for his winning start on home soil – Neil Danns breaking the deadlock just after the hour mark.

Mark Davies looked to have made the points secure 15 minutes later but Brentford halved the deficit to set up a nervy final seven minutes.

But Craig Davies sealed all three points for the hosts on the break in stoppage time.

The Whites were also victorious on that last visit to Brentford in October 1995 when a 3-2 Coca-Cola Cup triumph sealed a 4-2 aggregate victory.

Richard Sneekes had given Wanderers a slender advantage in the first leg at Burnden Park after what had been a difficult start to the league campaign for Colin Todd and Roy McFarland.

And progress past the first hurdle was secured thanks to goals from Mark Patterson, John McGinlay and Alan Thompson.

Going back even further, Brentford were the visitors to Burnden for the final match of the 1972-73 season when Wanderers ended their Division Three title-winning campaign with a 2-0 home success thanks to goals from Peter Nicholson and John Byrom.

The two sides woul meet again in the FA Cup third round just a few years later in January 1976.

Gale-force winds made it a difficult trip south for the Wanderers faithful but that did not deter more than 500 who boarded the train heading to Brentford.

Wanderers drew the game 0-0 but won the replay 2-0 thanks to a Neil Whatmore brace.
