WANDERERS defender Marc Tierney has announced his retirement from football.
The tenacious full-back fractured his ankle playing against Yeovil in September 2013 and underwent a series of operations to try and save his career.
Tierney, 29, signed for the Whites on a free transfer from Norwich City after spells with Oldham Athletic, Shrewsbury Town and Colchester United.
The club made an announcement this morning confirming that he has cut short his playing career on medical advice.
"I'd like to place on record my thanks to the staff, manager and chairman, who have been brilliant in helping me in the best way," Tierney told the club's website.
"The club have been kind enough to allow me to still come in for physio, so my treatment is still ongoing."
