BOLTON'S town team won the Greater Manchester Schools under-15s county football cup with a dramatic late extra-time goal.

They overcame the odds to beat reigning league champions Sefton 3-2, just as they did in beating national cup finalists Wirral in the semi-finals.

It was the perfect end to the team's three years together in their final match at schoolboy level.

The team, coached by Will Pacey and Daryl Thomas, took the lead after 10 minutes at FC United's Ayrshire Road training ground when Sharples School striker Matthew Chapman pounced to tap home when the Sefton defence failed to deal with a free kick.

They held the lead until the hour mark when Sefton levelled, and Bolton found themselves 2-1 down five minutes later.

Bolton refused to lie down and hit back seven minutes from time when Matthew Ormrod (Mount St Josephs) headed in the equaliser from a corner, and Eddie Baldwin (Turton) became the hero when he smashed in a cross at the far post with a stunning half volley with only three minutes to go.

Pacey said: "I am immensely proud of what the boys have achieved. They have represented Bolton brilliantly and I wouldn't swap any of them for any other player."

Thomas added: "Sefton won the league last season so we were massive underdogs like we were in the semi-final.

"We have been together for three years and it was our last ever game together. It's been three years hard work together and it's ended in the perfect way."
