IT’S all stations go for Wanderers’ top defensive target Craig Morgan after he announced plans to quit Rotherham United this summer.

Neil Lennon can finally make his move for the Wales international defender, earmarked as the perfect replacement for outgoing skipper Matt Mills.

And sources in South Yorkshire claim he could make it a double raid on the Millers, with winger Ben Pringle – who has also turned down a chance to stay on at the New York Stadium – emerging as a potential target.

Rotherham were confident of keeping both players but had pressed for answers by the end of this week and were ultimately left disappointed.

Now Steve Evans’ loss could be Wanderers’ gain, and with Lennon working tirelessly to shop around the bargain bins for signings, Morgan and Pringle would represent excellent value.

It is understood both players could be picked up with the wages saved by releasing Mills, who yesterday was having a medical at Nottingham Forest ahead of a potential reunion with former Macron boss Dougie Freedman.

Fulham boss Kit Symons had looked into signing Mills this summer but news that he is heading to the City Ground has been greeted with derision by Wanderers fans, after Freedman claimed only last month that he did not like buying players with whom he had previously worked.

It is also understood Freedman looked into an offer for out-of-contract keeper Adam Bogdan but could not match his financial demands.

Meanwhile, MK Dons boss Karl Robinson has baulked at suggestion he has made a bid for Wanderers winger Rob Hall.

The winger was a big hit in League One in the latter months of the season, helping the club to automatic promotion. But while Robinson did not deny interest in signing Hall again, he insisted there had not yet been any contact.

“Have I put a bid in? No. Have me and Neil Lennon spoken about him? No,” he said.

“Do I think Rob Hall is a talent and do I think he could have an impact at this football club? Yes.

“Do I want Rob Hall? That's a conversation between me and Neil Lennon.”

Coincidentally, Rotherham are the only club thought to have sounded Hall out about a move next season, with a reported fee of £450,000 discussed.
