EDGWORTH went to the top of the league with a 48-run home win against Worsley.

Dave Gornall top scored with 61 and fellow new boy this season Chris Tye hit 46 not out for the Bolton Road men.

A last wicket partnership of around 50 between Tye and Sam Bancroft – who scored five not out – was crucial in bumping up the score.

Worsley were going well when they passed the 100 mark with only three wickets down, but a flurry of quick dismissals turned the game Edgworth’s way.

Pro Chris Read was the pick of the home side’s bowlers with 5-60 and Gareth Williams took 3-24 with Danny McKeown scoring 39 for Worsley.

Flixton were knocked off top spot after suffering a 26-run defeat at Walshaw who climbed to fourth.

Walshaw overseas player Dawayne Sealy went in at number seven and top scored with 56 of his side’s 172, opener Jack McClung chipping in with 28 while Flixton pro Prenelan Subrayen took 5-43.

Gavin Nicholl then showed what a quality bowler he has become after switching from wicketkeeping to bowling only two years ago as he took 5-37 of 16 overs.

Along with Sealy’s 3-52 they helped restrict the reigning champions to 146 of which Luke Perry scored 42 and Rob Clews 38, the key point of the match coming when three Flixton wickets fell – two for Nicholl and one run out – without a run added to leave the visitors 60-odd and six wickets down.

Bury were many people’s tip for the title at the start of the season but they are underperforming so far.

They suffered their third straight defeat with the top five batsmen not firing.

That problem was again evident as they slipped to a 56-run defeat to Adlington at Radcliffe Road.

Majid Majeed scored 39 and Jack Shovelton 33 as the visitors posted 141, Matt Smalley taking 4-23, Alex Breckin 3-40 and Ashen Silva 3-45 for Bury.

Captain Sean Gibson top scored with 41 for Bury and the experienced Ben King finished with excellent figures of 4-26 from his 12 overs for Adlington.

Swinton Moorside maintained their challenge at the top with a 103-run win at home to Astley and Tyldesley.

David Flatley top scored with 90 as Moorside amassed 306-7 with Matt Norvell 66 not out and Jamie McDougal 56.

Jimmy Cutt took 4-100 for A&T then hit 43, Paul Bennett 45 not out and Alex Heaton 54 in reply.

Lostock made it three wins in six games for the season when they had a fine win against Atherton.

The visitors, who had won four out of five games previously, struggled against the bowling of Simon Hanson (5-21 from 8.3 overs) and Tom Sheen (4-35).

Paul Walsh top scored for Atherton with 19.

Lostock were struggling at 49-7 in reply when Tom Senior (14 not out) and Tom Gregory (11 not out) came together to see their side home.

Jamar Griffith took 4-38 for Atherton and there were a huge 28 extras in the Lostock total.
