KEVIN Davies is hoping to extend his playing career into next season after picking up a play-off final winner's medal with Preston North End on Sunday.

But the former Wanderers skipper is relaxed about where that may be – either staying with the Championship new boys or moving further afield to play in India.

Even before Sunday's Wembley triumph, Davies admitted he felt fit enough to play on for another season.

Like many of the Preston players out of contract, he is waiting to hear if the Lilywhites are keen for him to stay as they prepare for life alongside his former club Wanderers in next season's Championship.

But whatever the outcome, the 38-year-old forward hopes to delay hanging up his boots.

"I don’t think there is a decision to be made really – it makes itself," Davies told The Bolton News.

"There are a lot of players out of contract here (at Preston) and that will only be looked at now, following the play-off final.

"There was uncertainty with the club beforehand not knowing which league we would be in next season.

"It doesn’t worry me as much.

"I am 38-years-old and have had 20 years worrying about the next contract.

"I am at a point now where I can have a discussion with the club and if it is a case of ‘well done, we have enjoyed having you’ then I will move on.

"I thought this would be my last but having done this year, and being able to train every day and not miss it, I feel good.

"I think I am at a level I can do it all still on the fitness side, doing everything what is asked of me.

"That’s why I am considering doing another year, which I didn’t think at the start of this season.

"I can’t second guess what’s going to happen – I have to see what offers come in.

"If it’s a contract that appeals to me and it’s a club that can excite me and it’s a challenge or a manager that sells it to me then I would probably go for it.

"I have had a couple of calls already about maybe going to the Indian league.

"I have always given my all for every club I’ve played for and will see what comes in.

"I am relaxed about it."

While Davies hopes to play on, he admits any offer has to be right for both him and his family.

And if nothing appeals next season, it could be he does end up bringing the curtain down on a career spanning more than 20 years – including 400-plus appearances for the Whites in a decade at the club.

Davies added: "If good offers don’t come in or nothing feels right for me then I will start looking at other options in terms of coaching or media.

"I do my work with the local Bolton junior league, which is like a full-time job in itself and I enjoy that.

"I am in a position that rather than worry, I can be excited about what happens next.

"If I retire then so be it – I am not worried about not playing again if it isn’t right for me or my family."
