BURNDEN’S female runners continued to catch the eye with a string of successes.

At the Hutton Roof Crags Seven-Mile Fell Race in Cumbria on Saturday, Lesley Fisher (1hr 11mins 59secs), Anne Ferguson (1:13:41) and captain Gwen Kinloch (1:14:38) secured the ladies' team prize, and they were followed home by Holly Craggs (1:18:40) and Maria Parkinson (1:53:51).

The team prize winners were also the first three home in the V55 category, showing the club’s strength in depth in this age category.

On Bank Holiday Monday, Fisher added the first V55 prize to her season’s collection at the Fishwick Five-Mile. She was third lady home in 38:50.

Earlier in the week, Kirsty Normanton was second lady home and first in the F45 category at the Horwich Jubilee Series in a time of 33:29 with Shirley Staveley first of the F50 runners in 36:43.

Along with Katy Thompson (37:28) they came second in the team awards.

As for the men this week, Andy Staveley was first of the Burnden men home at Hutton Roof, finishing in 13th overall and second V50 in 58:14, with Keith Thomas (1:02:05) hot on his heels and second V55 home.

Don Nichol’s first outing as a V60 saw him post 1:17:37, with Dave Aulton completing the tough mix of trail and scree in 1:24:30.

Nichol followed that up at the Fishwick Five with a second place in his second V60 outing in 40:49 followed by Dave Pearson, whose comeback trail continued with 44:49, knocking 43 seconds off his 2014 time.

In the men’s section at the Horwich Jubilee Series, Steve Nolan won the V55 prize in 30:08, followed by Andy Staveley, second in the V50 category in 31:07, Thomas, second in the V55 section in 31:30, and captain Lee White, second of the V40 runners in 32:06. This earned Burnden second place in the men’s team competition.

Ed Ashton (32:48), Laurence Keighley (34:41), Colm O’Brien (36:02), Matt Barker (36:06), Craig Philpot (36:14), Jackie Oakes (40:31) and Clair Marland (45:11) completed the Burnden turnout.

Phil Eccleston followed up his second place at the Windermere Marathon with a third position at the Great Eccleston Four-Mile near Blackpool in 22:06.
