CATHERINE O’Dwyer won the ladies' race in the run-bike-run of the Ian Hesketh Memorial Duathlon.

She came home first in 1hr 26mins 24secs with Bolton United Harriers club-mate Donna Cooper picking up bronze in 1:40:38.

The Rivington event featured several BUH&AC members, with some training for the upcoming Ironman.

The relay team of Karl Darcy and Shaun Lomax were first across the line in a blue vest, as their cumulative 1:17:23 gave them sixth overall.

Darcy completed the two running stints in the quickest times on the day (17:03 and 17:52) whilst Ironman Lomax cranked the pedals.

Less than a minute behind (1:18:07) Shaun O’Dwyer was the first of Bolton’s contingent to complete the race individually, placing seventh of the 83 field behind winner Tom Carson.

Pete Kearney’s strong running was eclipsed by Stewart Brierley’s cycling, as 27 seconds separated the two.

Daryl Bentley and Debbie Cooper completed the Red Rose 100-mile in 31hrs 18mins.

They finished joint 49th of 503 starters, outperforming their expectations in the event which was organised by the Long Distance Walker’s Association.

The circular race from the Anderton Centre at Rivington went up to Blackburn’s Whitton Park and Whalley before Bolton-by-Bowland and Chipping. Pendle Hill saw the only navigational error – which cost the half a mile – and another one-mile round trip was necessitated due to forgetting to self-click at a checkpoint.

Elsewhere, Andrew Doyle completed a gutsy showing in the Keswick AC’s Helvellyn And The Dodds Fell Race. His 2:54:24 gave him 48th in the 168-strong field after rolling an ankle in the first mile.

Stretford witnessed some great results from blue-vested competitors at the Greater Manchester County Championships (GMAA) where there was at least one winner in each age group, several new personal bests and a new club record for Alice Tonge in the under-15s 800m.
