BOLTON boxer Amir Khan says he will feel at home fighting in New York on Friday night.

Khan takes on home-town fighter Chris Algieri at Brooklyn's Barclays Center in his first bout in the Big Apple since his winning debut Stateside in 2010 against Paulie Malignaggi.

But while Algieri may have partisan support, Khan believes he will be well backed in a city he also considers home alongside Bolton.

The 28-year-old's wife Faryal hails from the city and Khan spends his time outside of the ring in between Lancashire and Manhattan.

And he expects to have a sizeable fanbase of his own on the night.

Khan said: "New York was where I had my first fight in the US against Paulie Malignaggi five years ago.

"When I was younger it was the dream to fight in Las Vegas.

"But I have fought so many times there now that I wanted a change and New York is great for me.

"I spend a lot of time there because obviously that is where my wife is from.

"Algieri is the home fighter being from New York and that will make him a tough opponent.

"But I know I have a lot of fans there. When I am out there in the streets people ask me when I am going to fight there.

"I have been to watch a few basketball games at the Barclays Center and they have asked when am I going to fight there?

"It’s a chance for the fans to see me in New York and also good for the UK fans as it is nearer than Vegas to get to.

"I don’t think my wife will come – she will be with my mum at the hotel.

"I think they get nervous watching because it is out of their control."
