WANDERERS defender Tim Ream says manager Neil Lennon will not tolerate another season of mediocrity at the Macron Stadium.

And he is in full agreement that the Whites must do better in the next campaign if they are to avoid finishing in the lower reaches of the Championship again.

The US international is confident they can do that under Lennon's stewardship and believes things are heading in the right direction after the boss achieved his primary aim last season of steering the club away from the relegation zone.

Ream told The Bolton News: "There is not going to be this up and down rollercoaster next season. He’s not going to allow it.

“He did what he was brought here to do and that’s keep us in the Championship.

"He did a fantastic job of turning this thing around.

“The simple fact is he’s not going to sit around and not let this club win games.

"He is a born winner and he comes from a winning background. That’s what he’s trying to instil.

“If you don't play well, you get a rollocking but that comes with the job.

"If you’re not playing well then it’s open season. You deserve it.

“You should take it in your stride, use the criticism and apply it to the next game."

Ream may not have had many of those dressing downs last season after being voted the club's player of the year for the second successive season, despite again playing in an unfamiliar left-back role for the most part.

He missed just two of 46 league outings – making the most appearances of any Wanderers player last season.

And he says he is humbled to receive the award from the fans again.

The 27-year-old added: "No-one can be pleased with the first part of the season but as it went on we became more consistent.

“To stand here having been voted as player of the season again by the fans, there’s no better feeling. It’s something special.

“It speaks for itself being able to play 49 games this year. I’ve been able to do something right."
